Fantastic place to work. And then Shell happened.

      Pros

Very generous reward/benefits/pension (compared to outside the oil & gas industry). Fantastic people. Healthy culture. Good work/life balance. Very pleasant location, on a nature reserve.

      Cons

VERY political. Career progression based far more on networking and ability to 'play the game' than any genuine ability. Didn't feel like a meritocracy for much of the time. However, just how great a place BG Group was to work was hammered home by the almost instant culture change that occurred after the Shell takeover. I think many people realised they'd taken for granted the relative transparency and agility of BG once the creaking, monolithic processes of Shell began to trample, Tyrannosaur-like, over this once-fantastic company. Out with achievement and teams who knew their purpose, and in with clueless project managers and ridiculous management speak. The next person to ask for 'a connect' with me is going to get a roundhouse kick to the head.

      Pros

Very good world class company. Some very nice practices in place and excellent safety behavior. Mid size company and takes care of their employee.

      Cons

BG Group works in many assets. But their India asset is really crap. Too much politics and people doesn't have moral intention to work for company's benefits. Maximu of senior people are just pretending to show their good behavior but actually they are not.

      Pros

As with most companies there are the good and bad managers. I'd say BG Group as plenty of both. They do emulate larger companies and really try to develop better employees.

      Cons

Very strange office politics and it takes a while to get used to the British business culture.

      Used and abused

      Pros

They have structure to most of their processes and functioning systems which is nice.

      Cons

The leadership is very immature and the atmosphere is similar to high school. If you are in the "in-crowd" and brown-nose your way to the top (despite having any real skills) you will be promoted in your career with BG Group. If you over achieve in your role but do not play the political game, you will never go anywhere! Also, the skill-lacking, golden children who are promoted, are given manager positions with employees reporting to them and have no idea how to manage. SCARY! In addition, I witnessed first hand how salary increases are based on how much the snobby compensation team likes you. They are not based on merit or accomplishments.
