I have been working at Badoo full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Perks and benefits that is hard to find in any other company in London

    Cons

Russian is the main language of the office, they keep pointing out and sending out emails and emails saying that staff should not speak in Russian but it never change or will change, the CEO is pampered, only cares about his image and what other people and the press thinks about the company. Staff are underpaid, overwork and a crazy bonus system that always works in the company favour to give you less money.... Management are 95% Russians so you end up having to beg for things as other for being Russians would just get it first handed and with no approval needed as a "buddy". Founders like to be treated like gods, you must not speak with them, you must to disturb them, they will always be secluded in their tiny little room where you feel frighted to even adventure yourself inside when you are called upon.

    Advice to Management

If you pretend to have a London office, hire people that live and breath here, don't relocate all your work force from Russian and want to transform the office into a Little Russia as is keeping your best minds leaving or never joining the company. Try to focus more on the office environment than on perks, sometimes listen to your employees when they ask you your plans for the future don't sweep it under the rug or... delete the question of the AMA's. Try to change the way management treat lower employees or stop assuming that each person in the company has a value printed on them and reward each one for they actual value, we don't want Fiji water or expensive parties to show off to the rest of the world, pay us what we deserve!

    I worked at Badoo

    Pros

Fun industry - nothing else but I have to write more or Glassdoor will not submit :)

    Cons

I wanted to be so wrong about working for a Russian company and be open minded. But this is a nightmare place to work with arrogant founders. Avoid working here unless you only plan to stay a few months

    Advice to Management

    Listen and don’t be arrogant

I worked at Badoo full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - smart co-workers - high salaries - expect gaining lots of experience and grow professionally - free lunches, breakfasts, massages, looooots of perks - cosy - very vibrant company

    Cons

    - politics starting from some level. - there are many people that seem grumpy on the first glance, mostly coming from Russia. This might make you feel uncomfortable, but this is only until the first vodka party where it turns out they are the sweetest people in the world. But next day, you might see them grumpy again. In general, russian way of communicating is way more explicit and might be considered rude for... westerners. You might or might not like it. - no one is really passionate about the app - php, ffs Generally speaking, although it is really cofortable working there, you might get bored after several years of working there. It might be frustrating to the founders, but the truth is, the product is about making the money, and not changing the world, and free food and massages cannot compensate for this.

I worked at Badoo full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    - Showered in gifts and bonuses - Free food - Bizarre, over the top parties

    Cons

    - Russian run company - you'll be inundated with presents but then fired at a moment's notice. - Have you heard of Badoo? Have your friends heard of Badoo? No. It's a failing brand. It won't last long - they know it, you know it. That's why management are in full on panic mode and firing people at random. - The future is about Bumble which actually has an identity. - Avoid this place like you would a horde of... zombies (as a side note, management have about as much intuition as a zombie) - don't be drawn in by the salary and promise of progression. You will be used until the next panic and then discarded. But you might have enough time on the way out to steal some food.

I worked at Badoo full-time for more than a year

    Pros

You will be showered with money constantly: best tools money can buy, devices, conferences... You will have food 24/7, booze every Friday and massive parties. It's great if you never grow up. If you are not under the "eye of sauron" you'll manage to have a happy life... Until you do.

    Cons

The most toxic environment for your mental well-being I have ever seen. Nobody cares about you If you don't speak Russian, you are in the apartheid, and you'll be left out. Additionally, if you are not an engineer in a revenue generating position, you are second class. Maybe third. High turnover. Try to ask how long your interviewers have been around. Ask why people leave. This, together with their difficulty to... hire, will make incompetent or not fit for teamwork people stick around and never be fired. Big pressure spikes for no good reason. You'll be asked to work during weekends for things that could have been planned but nobody bothered. You will be burnt and overworked in the name of "hard working", but try to see any director or VP staying later than 6. Promotions are arbitrary and a way of trying to make people not leave, not praising their abilities. You may be the best, but won't progress until you threaten to leave. The eye of sauron will come. Suddenly, people from the self proclaimed "power room" (scary, but it's just the directors) will sniff, tear apart and micro manage every single aspect of what you do. You will be discredited, shout at and made feel worthless in front of everyone else. You will be part of bizarre events, drunk people surrounded by half naked women and children, where they will spend big money on getting you distracted from all the cons (perhaps forget them even after that much booze) Misogyny, racism and bigotry will be part of your every day. And when you try to raise it, nobody will see the problem with it. One of the most ridiculous parenthood allowances in the London tech industry (the exact bare minimum)

    Advice to Management

Stop ignoring the elephant in the room. There may be a reason for why you can't hire people from Europe anymore. Not everything can be solved with money. Let people who know what they do solve the problems you pay them for. Stop micro managing every single aspect of a given product. Don't hold fake all-hands with pre approved questions: if you don't accept questions from the audience it's just a company update.... Admit your mistakes. You are so busy praising yourselves that you create a bubble of delusion and may even forget the major mistakes done in the recent past, only to repeat them over and over again. Get proper company values, then create a company culture, then promote it with funny posters. Not the other way around. You are not Facebook. You are not Google. You are not Uber. Get over it. And please, stop bribing people into writing fake reviews. There are too obvious and they should embarrass yourselves. No place has "no cons".

    I worked at Badoo full-time

    Pros

Great perks: free breakfast, lunch and dinner if you work late as well as massages and parties.

    Cons

The product feels like a scam. Very strong Russian culture. Unless you are Russian or a white male, you will not be treated as an equal.

    Advice to Management

Stop spending time and money on inflated press articles and actually implement a change to the culture starting with gender and racial equality.

I worked at Badoo full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The company cares about the reputation in the tech world, and does a lot to make sure its developers are constantly trained and get and the perks of such jobs in London. Plus parties, daily free food and drinks weekly, and a very nice and modern office.

    Cons

There is an astonishing inequality in the way developers are treated compared to the rest of the company. Generally speaking, the working culture doesn't really fit the one of a tech company in London. Behind a smokescreen of "we're a startup", in reality things are much more like "you do what I tell you to do, and you work on weekends if necessary". Women are discriminated, especially if they work amongst Russian... developers.

    Advice to Management

The company culture has to change. It doesn't matter if you pretend to appear like an innovative and cool firm to work for, because whoever joins, after the initial months of excitement, is gonna realize that it's just a facade and will quit soon after. Diversify the management, hire people that think and behave differently than you and maybe, Badoo will really become a great company to work for, and less of a... Russian dictatorship.

    Pros

An amazing place to make some money providing you are aware where you are getting in Well paid, good benefits Challenging environment, complex problems to solve Competent colleagues, people who do not make the cut will not make it through probation Working closely with the community Depending on the team you join, very healthy team dynamics

    Cons

Micro-management and lack of trust from higher management Big, huge Russian bias. You will be surrounded by racism, sexism and bigotry; both in technical and product decisions and in your daily office environment. They will speak about you in front of you in a language you probably don't understand, and nobody will care You will end up working long hours for substantial and arbitrary changes that "can't take that... long"

    Advice to Management

Trust the people you hire, or just don't hire them. Company culture issues can't be fixed by throwing cash at people. Awesome parties do not substitute professionalism and respect. Listen.

I have been working at Badoo

    Pros

We're encouraged to develop real tools - parallelising Cucumber tests on iOS, Windows, and MobileWeb - and to work closely with the development teams. My experience of the company has been very positive, both officially and unofficially. It's hard to choose between the massages at your desk and the delicious catered lunches as my favourite perk, but happily I don't have to choose between them! Flexible working is... very helpful with a young family about to get bigger!

    Cons

The 9-6 hours ate up the half hour I would have saved in changing my commute from Hammersmith to Soho, but that really hasn't made a big impact. I'd like to visit the Moscow office, to know my counterparts there, but I want to improve my Russian first!

    Advice to Management

I'm pretty happy with my management!
