I have been working at Baillie Gifford full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Corporate culture, partnership structure, excellent career development and consideration for work-life balance.

    Cons

Lack of diversity within partnership - has been identified as an area for attention and efforts are being made to improve this.

    Pros

Generous bonus (even for people that under-perform), pleasant offices, super polite culture, successful at what they do so very secure, generous training provision

    Cons

A lot of dead wood clogging promotion opportunities, lacklustre approach to performance management and career development, inward looking, unnecessarily slow moving

I have been working at Baillie Gifford full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The firm looks after its employees - it feels like a nice place to work. The rewards for hard work are there.

    Cons

Nothing of note at this point.

    Advice to Management

No advice at this current stage.

    Pros

The company has a great culture and unparalleled work-life balance

    Cons

Very few, great programme. Internships are usually long, some 3 months plus and hence a few could see that as a downside but to most should be positive.

    Pros

Great place to work, hoping to come back as a Graduate.

    Cons

As a summer student there was sometimes a lack of work but still great experience.

    Pros

This used to be a good place to rise fast - back in the 1980s and 1990s when they were making partners after four or five years. Now, it's an easy place to fill some years if you're not ambitious.

    Cons

You're lucky now if you don't die of boredom in your fifteenth year here with all the other hangers-on. Everyone's reassuring everyone that it's going to be ok, that we'll make it to becoming partners ... but it sounds increasingly hollow as another year passes without anyone but existing partners getting more responsibility. This is what happens when a business matures and growth slows. We've invested so much time in all the sycophancy - and whoever leaves makes it easier for the others to become partner - am I wasting my career?

    Advice to Management

    Distribute the opportunities more widely.

I have been working at Baillie Gifford full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

BG gives you plenty of responsibility early on. It has a supportive culture that encourages creativity and personal development. Library and 'creative space' are always available for employees needing inspiration. The partnership structure really takes a lot of pressure off investor's back and enables us to take the long-term view on things. The work/life balance is great.

    Cons

There are few lateral hires on the investment floor, which means that most people you cross it the hallways have only ever worked at the firm. This can sometimes lead to echo chambers but overall it's managed well.

I worked at Baillie Gifford full-time

    Pros

2 stars because working in finance can be interesting so the job itself was ok.

    Cons

Partners almost all white men. Not a lot of promotion of anyone else going on. It felt like a really backward place to work, kind of suffocating.
