I have been working at Bain & Company full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great place to learn how to think about a business holistically and convert this into practical actions for executives to take.

Feels like a family, with strong culture of both formal and informal mentor-ship and on-the-job coaching.

    Cons

Hours can be excessive due to relentless pursuit of perfection. Also hard to predict as often dependent on client, Bain management team and type of project.

    No opinion of CEO

I worked at Bain & Company full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Fantastic people, very motivated, interesting and fun. Great brand name, opens doors once you leave

    Cons

Horrible work culture that crushes your self-esteem and grinds you down. Though their values sound great and they talk a lot about the apprenticeship model, Bain's systems (review, promotion, hierarchy etc.) are awful. I worked at another top management consulting firm before so could directly compare my experience. I saw and experienced many issues in this company but I think the main one is the lack of managerial training that employees get before they start managing coupled with the lacking incentives to manage your team well and by well I mean actually support their growth and help them succeed while also keeping them healthy (physically and mentally).

    Advice to Management

Get rid of zero defect - mistakes are there to learn from. Look into your promotion system and make sure it becomes fairer and not based purely on chance opportunities that employees are given by HR. Train your managers to manage their teams sustainably. Reward good management and make sure people that burn their teams don't get rewarded and promoted through the ranks.

I have been working at Bain & Company full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The dedication at Bain to professional development is truly unique. On every case there is a focus that one part of the job is to deliver results for the client whilst the other part is about developing the team.

The culture is fantastic and is organic bottom up rather than some corporate enforced fun.

    Cons

None beyond what you'd expect working in a top tier consulting firm.

I have been working at Bain & Company full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Perks are great - lots of offsites, global trainings and opportunities to spend time with peers builds a great network of friends in the office
    - Work is incredibly varied, in ~2 years have worked in multiple industries and each project is different
    - The people are incredibly smart, diverse and fun. The culture in general is amazing!
    - A lot of Managers / Partners really care about the juniors, they will happily just chat to you about career moves etc. and are generally fairly approachable
    - Great post-Bain options
    - Flexibility options can be great - opportunities to live / work abroad, take externships and Leave of Absence
    - Constant emphasis on improvements in the office, weekly surveys to track satisfaction and changes generally made on the feedback where possible

    Cons

    - Hours are long, often with heavy travel also which can be tough on the work-life balance
    - Pay in London is significantly below other Bain offices and worse than salaries in other industries that Bainies are qualified for
    - Flexibility options can be difficult to take, the options for transfers etc are there, but they are more difficult to take than recruiting sells it as

    Advice to Management

Keep driving sustainability and increase the value proposition in London

    -Endless opportunities for personal development
-Fantastic perks (global travel, training programmes, social events)

    Cons

-Work/life balance can, at times, be a struggle (London is very good relative to other offices though)

    Advice to Management

-London management should continue to prioritise sustainability as they're doing a great job of it relative to elsewhere (in Europe) at the moment!
