I have been working at Barchester Healthcare full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good support, staff investement , brilliant infrastructure, forward looking, free staff meals (always fresh and wholesome) paid training and PVG scheme,.....I am not long in the post but so far very impressed

    Cons

Nothing thus far...but I feel there was anything I felt was a negative I would be able to tell my manager and be listened to

    Advice to Management

Keep listening to your staff and rewarding good practice....it makes all the difference. Keep investing and embrace your own values it is noticed.

I have been working at Barchester Healthcare full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Staff benefits on line are great and the discounts available for staff does help your pocket.
Team I work with and up till last year were amazing, it was a humble experience to have been part of their careers. I was very happy working for sure a large company and my first 2 years were a positive learning curve. This company now just feels that is all about the money and not the quality of care.

    Cons

Management team is focused on money and not quality .
As a Manager if you don’t preform, you disappear.
Working with minimal staff levels to reduce agency costs.
The company lacks respect and passion for its staff team, no integrity on the top level of management. The culture within the company is not very motivating or empowering at this time.

    Advice to Management

Remove the CEO, COO and South DD.
Be kind to people as it goes a long way.

I worked at Barchester Healthcare full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Good salary
    Bonus scheme
    Free lunch in most homes

    Cons

Minimal training for a technical job
Seemed to be a lot of fear amongst GM’s
Bullying culture from RD’s & above
Like to use short service dismissal

    Advice to Management

Training needs to be good across the organisation. Just because you have a regional role means that you don’t get a company induction. Bullying isn’t ok whatever your role within the organisation.

I worked at Barchester Healthcare full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

There are no pro's to working for this organisation.

    Cons

Absolutely destroying what used to be a CARING organisation.

They covertly recruit their staff and hire mangers for people already in post, pay people to keep their mouths shut, bully people, swear at their staff and totally disrespect the entire care organisation. Absolutely disgusted

    Advice to Management

Remove the current management staff with people who came into this industry to care not to just achieve a bonus and destroy a reputation.

I worked at Barchester Healthcare full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Free Meals and free work tops

    Cons

Where do I start, well, bullying tactics, too much paperwork, and most importantly of all, NOT enough staff or time to look after these lovely residents who pay an awful lot of money to live here, also not enough activities for them to do as when I worked there until recently, one resident was almost in tears saying how bored he was with nothing to do !!

    Advice to Management

Wake up and see how wrong this home is being run, its disgusting treatment, these residents deserve much more, the carers are working so hard for them but they feel [like I did before Ieft] that they didnt have the support or time to do the care properly as they are always under pressure !!

I have been working at Barchester Healthcare full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The team within the home support each other but that’s where the support ends!

    Cons

Money money money! That’s all this company is about anymore. The staffing levels and budgets set are ridiculous and unachievable. There is a culture of ignoring the problem from general managers and directors alike. Zero support for heads of department from GMs as they are too busy filling beds with overpaying residents who will not get what’s they are paying for due to cutbacks and greed. Staff are beyond exhausted and just left to carry on.

    Advice to Management

Open your eyes Barchester! You have some great people working for you who are worth way more than being treated like animals.

I have been working at Barchester Healthcare full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The team and the residents are perhaps the only pro at this place. Carers and Nurses are hard working, almost back-brakeingly so. Home manager was very supportive and had an open door policy.

    Cons

Where does one even begin. It’s clear Barchester only ever care about one thing. Money. Barchester is a prime example of cooperate greed. Higher ups are rude and quick to point the finger if anything was to go wrong. Staffing levels low, but according to head office, 2 carers to 17 residents with varying degrees of bahvioural problems (including prone to violence) is over staffed. Residents suffer at the hands of the people their family’s fork out so much money for, as Barchester is one of the most expensive companies to have a family member live with, you’d expect they’d have the best care in England. No, and that is not the fault of care staff. Staff are under paid, over worked, and not even a thank you, not even an smile from the area manager as she sits and glares at you when she visits. And when you’re told that you’re job is easiet is even more of a spit in the face.

    Advice to Management

How about the pencil pushing higher ups in management come down from their high horse desk, put on a uniform and work a 12 hour shift, no break, understaffed, with residents who demonstrate challenging behaviour, make sure your paperwork is done on the hour every hour whilst also monitoring each and every resident and making sure ther needs are met. Then tell me that my job is the easiest of them all. Please. Delusional.
