Very few people you’d look at and think damn they work so hard are so smart deserve to be here. It’s a large corporate so you’ll have a lot of ppl staying out of convenience and through their own laziness or incompetence prevent others from excelling at theirs. To progress you need to make a lot of noise about nothing, just boast about stuff that you’ve done no matter how small and insignificant it is. Chances are nobody really cares nor understands what you’re rambling on about anyway so they’ll all think it’s awesome as long as you make it sound awesome. Also depends on the part of the bank that you work in - there’s definitely a different culture in Investment, Corporate, Business Bank. Opportunities for career progress aren’t the same throughout the company, with some departments it’s easier than others. It really depends on how much noise you make and who you know. Rarely matters how you perform.
