I have been working at Bazaarvoice full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Local leadership have been very supportive during Covid, felt no pressure to return to the office, was provided with equipment to help work from home and had regular check ins to see how you were. People have really made the effort to keep up social contact via things like weekly random coffees despite everyone working from home which made working form home less isolating. Working on some interesting greenfield development with the freedom for the team to design as they think best suits the situation, with no need to run your design past a technical review board or the like. The encouragement to learn and share you knowledge with others through communities of practice has really helped break barriers down between teams. Local product ownership. Scale of the data is enormous and presents interesting challenges. Interesting and relevant domain, online shopping is only going to continue to grow and Bazaarvoice is very much an enabler of that. Its quite funny seeing the recent 1 star reviews harking back to "superior" culture in the past of "Rockstars" where it sometimes felt like I was back at school with a "Rockstars" clique who expected that the non-rockstars should hang on their every word (like refusing to go to a social event as the "wrong" people from the office were there) and recognising the writers are the people who couldn't cope with the feedback that the rest of the office didn't want the Rockstar culture and that they needed to be inclusive and work as a team. There was a lack of self-awareness from some of these people that they were the problem which reflects in the reviews. The constant harping on about the supposedly superior technical standards of the past seems to be more about massaging their bruised egos and doesn't seem to bear any semblance to the reality of their actual contributions. From a current employee the reviews really come across as these people having a tantrum because they couldn't handle criticism and taking their ball and going home with it. The spouting of some outright lies because you don't like the change (like the Belfast office closing when we currently have highest headcount at any point of its existence and are still hiring) and trying to suggest cronyism by management for all new hires (continuing the theme of new=bad, old=good) all seems very childish and completely unprofessional (I mean it’s a job not your life). That being said the above doesn't apply to all of the recent leavers, there were some people who were a real loss (technically and culturally) but they aren't the ones leaving the 1 star reviews.

    Cons

Some of the Austin leadership seem to be more focused on empire building and nice org charts than actual leading and don't seem to know (or care) whats teams in their area are up to. There seems at time to be more interest in being the smartest person in the room and centralising decision making than in empowering others to succeed. Some of the new Indian based teams don't seem to understand the concept of teamwork and think their failure to consult and plan for work need by your team for new release constitutes an emergency on your part over actual client issues.

I have been working at Bazaarvoice full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I work with some of the best software professionals in Belfast on software that operates at real global internet scale. Teams are autonomous and own products from inception to delivery, and those products are core to the company's business - we're not limited to fixing bugs in legacy code or acting as satellite teams for the primary development hub in Austin. Innovation is encouraged. Management are supportive of a good work-life balance, whether that means flexible hours, working from home or highlighting the importance of good mental and physical health. Although BV has been around for almost 15 years, Belfast still has something of a startup vibe, and everyone has a voice in office decisions. Almost too much free food and drink, and I believe remuneration is well above average for Belfast. Note: Ratings are for Belfast only

    Cons

There has been upheaval in Austin as the company was acquired by a equity firm in 2018, leading to some technical leaders departing the company. High level of autonomy has led to duplication of effort and varied approaches to deployment/technology adoption, which is not efficient.

I have been working at Bazaarvoice full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The people and the culture are great, the atmosphere is very dynamic and multicultural; the product is fantastic and keeps getting better and better; HR is trying to implement more regular trainings; you are usually trusted to manage your own time (working from home/remotely is possible) and projects. I find that you have to fight a little for a better work/life balance but overall it's pretty good.

    Cons

Change is fine when it's managed, but change for the sake of changing is dangerous. I think the new leadership team gets that but we need stability. There is no real people management: it's very political, very much about who you're sucking up to. Performance is not rewarded on results but on how much noise you're making. If you're not an extrovert person, if you do not brag about what you do, you won't get recognised for your work. Which is why so many have left/are still leaving...

I worked at Bazaarvoice for more than 8 years

    Pros

Talented coworkers, work from home flexibility (as a contractor)

    Cons

Used to be the best place to work, but since being acquired by a VC firm it is now all about the bottom line, and no longer the people

I have been working at Bazaarvoice full-time

    Pros

Awesome company culture. Lots of team outings, company popups... Benefits are very competitive as well... 4 months fully paid maternity Cafe for Breakfast/Lunch on site (30% discount so very affordable) Free snacks/drinks/beer/coffee in every kitchen 24/7 Gym on site 3% match 401k Flexible/Unlimited PTO policy Occasional work from home on most teams

    Cons

This is a smaller company (700 ish employees), while Bazaarvoice does try to fill roles internally and promote from within, sometimes there just may not be an opening to move into...

I worked at Bazaarvoice part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Little to none. You get to work from home..yay. 🙄 But they treat you like a red headed stepchild since they never see you.

    Cons

Awful place to work. Management does not care about employees. Wrong failbacks and supervisors basically say, “Oh well.” As if it didn’t affect our pay! I also worked in another department for a bit and the leadership was non-existent. She was incompetent and blamed us for her inability to teach or train.

I have been working at Bazaarvoice part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Working from home is a plus, but no so much when you are stressing to get hours

    Cons

This used to be a great job, but things have changed. Work has become sparse, yet you are supposed to keep min hour requirements and your percentages high. Being that I have been here almost 4 years, I can tell when someone is trying to get me to quit. It seems that is the way it is going. You are told to not do something and then when you follow you are penalized for it. And then you are told you should be working towards a certain goal, but things change in your system with no knowledge. And when you bother to ask about it, they give you snarky remarks and there is really nothing you can do to defend yourself. Frustrating as I see myself as a person who will always accept accountability and do care about my work performance. The team is not backing each other. Failed content that is wrong left and right. I always choose to BL content, but others do not feel the same. I think this company may get its wish soon to run me off. I do not like feeling like I am not as smart as I was when I started and taken advantage of. Your opinion doesn't even come to the table as a moderator.

I have been working at Bazaarvoice full-time

    Pros

I feel trusted at Bazaarvoice. I can work from home when I need to, come in a little early or leave a little early if I need to. Obviously, I make sure to be worth of this trust but the flexibility is nice to have when I need it. Generous vacation policy, good benefits. I like the culture - lots of young folks, very nice.

    Cons

Bad internal documentation, lots of tribal knowledge, multiple names for everything, processes often aren't clear. Recently purchased by Marlin Equity and have seen outsourcing and layoffs within the last couple years. I am less confident in the future of my position and room for advancement.
