Pros

Full time work, pay and benefits are good.

Cons

The job positions and titles mean absolutely nothing. If you are hired as a lead carpenter you would expect that you would be a lead carpenter………. But you are not. You can have 20 years experience and be a lead carpenter, but then find yourself working under a carpenter 1 or 2, as a glorified laborer. They are very worried about sending anyone knew to do a job and that employee messing the job up and making the company look bad……. Should probably work on your hiring and interview process to vet new hires correctly so that is not a problem. Lots of BS first day type hazing, it’s honestly sort of weird. You can find yourself as a fully tooled lead carpenter, with your own truck and trailers, giving the job of sweeping the floors on Monday morning or installing 2 door knobs (then asked by someone below you “if your doing alright with the door knob install”). They might ask you to frame a simple partition, so you do…… at least till the point you run out of 2x4’s because the guy that’s below you but actually your boss forgot to get more lumber. So you move onto the next teeny little job they feel your small brain might be able to handle, only to watch they guy that’s below you go through the entire partition you framed up with 3” nails from your framing gun, and send 40 3” decking screws into every stud and plate connection……… because apparently your framing gun didn’t do the correct job or something?!?! Then when after 2 months you are finally given your own job, you think “well damn, it took a long time, but I can finally show them what I can do”. You demo the bathroom and right as your getting ready to do the plumbing (simple move a closet flange and a few supply lines, NOTHING DIFFICULT!) someone shows up because they do the plumbing, (not a plumber btw) they will cap the lines and come back in 2 days to move said plumbing around (nothing against that guy btw, he was just doing what he was told) ………. Because you clearly are an idiot that can’t handle the complexity of copper, pex, and abs. So in conclusion if you just want a paycheck it’s great, besides that, literally anything else and good luck.
