The idea that you must work as a teller first in order to be promoted while simultaneously competing with people who are there longer and recent your advancement. Also, having to be added to a team culture that isn’t welcoming.

Pros

Bethpage truly cares about both their employees, their members (customers), and the community! During covid they have made sure we all are still fully employed even when not working full time hours to keep us safe on A/B shifts. All the back office employees have been setup to work from home to keep them safe too. Bethpage is working from the standpoint of keeping the members and employees safe.

None, I've worked for many other companies and this is the real deal.

Pros

Transitioned quickly and seamlessly to working from home for most departments thanks to the IT team, who from what I can tell are under-appreciated and stretched quite thin. Large 401k match and Roth offering, decent amount of time off compared to most companies. Employees can 'boost' each other with points that they can spend on gift cards and items, and depending on your job you can really rack them up and cash in on some sweet $100 gift cards a few times a year. Truly family-like, warm and fuzzy work environment. The people are more relaxed and down-to-earth than most workplaces and the company's values foster that.

Cons

They push for Glassdoor reviews frequently and theres an implied incentive for being voted 'best company to work for'. Take all of these no-con 5-star reviews with a grain of salt. Opportunities are few and far between. Expect to wait a very long time for a promotion to become available and for it to ultimately go to the person who was there the longest. It's a great thing to see a teller move up to back-office but it's a rare sight. It's corporate. Some managers are awful and you can tell who was hired based on their skills and who was promoted based on seniority. You'll deal with the same corporate BS as any other office job, but the difference is Bethpage isn't a terrible place to work like most companies, so it's actually tolerable.
