I have been working at Biogen (More than a year)

    Pros

Good recognition of talent and hard working individuals, those who put forth effort are rewarded. Great perks include a very affordable and high quality cafeteria, free seminars, recognition programs, and team building activities. Great team, tight knit work family. Room for growth, vertical and horizontal climbing opportunities, supervisors and managers genuinely care about the development of workers. Annual bonus, long term stock incentives, great 401K and medical/vision/dental insurance, employee discounts, shift differentials.

    Cons

Work life balance is not the greatest for 10-12 hour shift workers, especially for night shift, but that's what the shift differential is for. Seems like department and/or company wide reorganizations take place too often (almost quarterly).

    Advice to Management

Keep developing your direct reports as you have been. I know change is often required for an ever-changing and developing biotech industry, but all the reorgs make people feel unstable, try to keep something the same to make people feel like there is a solid foundation.

Not all supervisors are created equal, some work harder for your advancement than others.

I worked at Biogen as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Good pay, shift differential for nights and weekends, holiday pay

    Cons

6 month contract got extended several times so took 1.5 years before hired full time. Slow to let you learn, get stuck at bottom of rung doing mundane task without learning actual process. Knew several contractors that were let go with no warning. While I was there, i was on 3 different teams, had 4 supervisors including several months without a supervisor.

    Pros

Great pay, benefits, health care and dental plan, and awesome employee stock purchase program. Also food in the cafeteria is subsidized, so breakfast and lunch are super cheap and pretty high quality.

    Cons

Disconnect between management and manufacturing associates on the floor. A lot of decisions that get passed down to the people making the actual product don't make much sense. Could be better communication across departments

    Advice to Management

Trust your senior level MA's. If someone has been processing for 12 years, they usually know what they are doing.

    Pros

Biogen IDEC is working towards bettering the lives of people with debilitating illness rather than just looking for "Me Too" drugs. The compensation is very competitive and the 6% 401k matching is an industry best. Very interested in employee retention and upward mobility.

    Cons

Haven't worked in the position long enough to properly evaluate cons for the company. They require me to show up for work if I want to get paid.
