I have been working at Biogen full-time

    Pros

Ambitious company with very strong growth in mid stage pipeline. Very science focused and evidence based allocation of resources. Expect great things as key assets readout over the coming years

    Cons

Rocky period of reorgs over last couple of years, but things have setted and are now picking up speed under new leadership

I have been working at Biogen full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The people here are top notch and super friendly. The old friendly and helpful culture is still around, but recent guidelines do not emphasize that anymore, so it's hard to say what will happen.

Historically, great benefits and perks. Summer hours, nice bonuses, Stock Purchase Program, weekly Social Hour, winter shutdown, sabbaticals, remote work, reliable raises if you perform well - all things the new leadership is threatening. Reliable raises are gone now.

    Cons

The company is in a big transition in its culture. New CEO / HR / CFO, etc. It's not clear where we will land, but this is definitely not the Biogen of even 3-5 years ago. It's beginning to feel like a soul-less mega-corp and that is just so sad.

New compensation guidelines are very hard on every single employee. You can work 60 hrs a week, far exceed expectations, do everything that is asked and more, and still your manager can do very little to reward you for that. This has really decreased morale among the top performers at the company. Why bother to work 50-60 hours a week, when others work less than 40 and get the same raise? 1-2 people in the entire department get a raise sufficient to counteract inflation. Do amazing, get a top score and the raise you get is the same % that an average performer got for the last twenty years. Doesn't feel good at all.

    Advice to Management

Respect and value your employees. Your top performers are discouraged and looking for other opportunities where they will feel valued. Pay "meh" and you'll get "meh".

I have been working at Biogen full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Medium sized Biotech company, with recent rapid growth and depending on the pipeline might enjoy exponential growth in next 5 years
Competitive package, but only if properly negotiated
    Good work culture, nice colleagues

    Cons

For some departments, stability might be an issue
Excessive workload, again depending on department

    Advice to Management

Provide some stability and level setting between employees. Too big differences currently, not linked with workload or performance in terms of compensation

I have been working at Biogen full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The benefits are fantastic. The pay is great in some roles. Flexible work arrangements and WFH options are good. Pay for school and professional development has never been an issue.

    Cons

Your experience depends on how your direct manager likes you. Your direct manager has complete control over your career. Leveling of position is NOT based on the work done, but on the person in the role and can be very bias. Not as much experience in the higher management levels which shows in the number of fires going on at the same time. Very competitive which makes working as a team very difficult. Can be a bit cliquish and it is hard to succeed if you are not a member of the right clique.

    Advice to Management

think about the affects on the employees with the constant change in management. Look closely at HR and how they encourage promotions to ensure people are promoted based on their experience and education, not on how much the upper management like them or not. We will not grow and be as successful as we can be if that continues.
