    I worked at Biogen full-time

    Pros

Excellent company to work for. Everyone is passionate about their work and was a joy to work with. Their benefits package can not be beat.

    Cons

Since I am no longer employed I have only heard rumors that there is currently a lot of turn over with people leaving the company. Most of the ones I know were planning this for a long time but hinted that the time had come.

    Advice to Management

At the time that I worked there I do with there was more recognition for individuals based solely on merit. This was a long time concern for employees and was improving over the years so keep it up.

    Pros

Health insurance and retirement benefits are very good. This is a hold over from past days.

    Cons

Very negative culture. Leadership is absent on multiple levels and throughout the company. Management does not value differing points of view. Management only wants ‘yes’ men and women. This place use to inspire teams to leverage diversity of thought to better achieve a richer outcome, now it uses fear and negativity to try and achieve their goals.

The environment at Biogen is unstable. People are constantly getting laid off. I’ve had 6+ managers in the last 12 months. My story unfortunately is not uncommon.

I’ve seen Biogen hire people and relocate them, only to let them go a few months later. Wow.

With the numerous layoffs and reorganizations throughout the company (several times within the same functions), the opportunity for career growth has been reduced to nearly zero. People are removed from their current positions and ‘placed’ in others with no regards as to whether they want that role or not. While others who are applying for those ‘open’ roles are left with no opportunity to grow or expand. This happens often.

Many people at Biogen are leaving in droves because the culture is so negative. Beware, not a healthy or good place to work.

    Advice to Management

People make or break a company. Advice to the Board: Get rid of Michel. The culture starts at the top. Michel and his management team have instilled a very negative culture at Biogen. Michel was a bad choice for CEO a very bad choice.

I have been working at Biogen part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Management allows you the autonomy to contribute at your own pace with your own ideas.
    - Cross functional experiences with groups inside and outside your designated department.
    - Fantastic development programs such as resume building, intern lunches with VPs/former interns, etc.
    - Assigned a manager and an individual contributor for mentorship throughout the program

    Cons

    - Your projects are likely low priority. Thus it is often hard to gather the information needed from key stakeholders (full-time employees are very busy).
    - Little orientation on things needed in individual departement/job role e.g. jargon, acronyms, daily responsibilities.

    Advice to Management

    - Ensure that the intern is on track with his/her project with weekly 1:1 meetings
    - Teach interns the basics of business in addition to his/her project. For example, how to run an effective meeting, setting agendas, etc.

    Pros

Excellent benefits and employee perks, A wealth of really smart, highly talented people. Work environment is open space concept and wonderfully bright and cheery.

    Cons

Opportunities for growth and pay limited for some. Over the past few years there have been layoffs, to the point of lots of uncertainty and a constant feeling among many of when will the next one hit.
