I worked at BlackBerry for more than a year

    Pros

Blackberry really care about your devolpment and offered a lovely employee reward scheme. Senior management made effort with interns and so did middle level management.

    Cons

People asking "Didnt know BlackBerry were still about"

    I worked at BlackBerry full-time

    Pros

Not many. Some people are nice.

    Cons

Everything. Toxic senior level management with no direction. John Chen is a hopeless leader who clearly doesn't understand the market or the simple fact that no one cares about the BlackBerry brand. No one. But the whole companies strategy is based on some whimsical recognition of a long irrelevant device. The Peter Principal is evident in nearly all levels of managers and directors. Cylance is just snake oil and the rest of the products are poor and below average. Managers and directors promoted over their abilities creating utter paralysis across the board.

I worked at BlackBerry full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

It was the people It was the culture It was the location It was the challenge

    Cons

The management team that knew what they were doing were driven out. Cylance acquisition has been botched - senior roles snapped up by folks who do not have the first clue about the market or the customers. Regional leadership is weak and just ‘Yes’ men. Confused marketing - how can the market know what BlackBerry are about if the staff don’t?

I worked at BlackBerry full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    Nothing I can think of

    Cons

Terrible management at all levels, they do not listen to their staff and only care about meeting targets. The expectations put on the staff is too much. Everyone is overworked and stressed. The lack of staff puts pressure on the existing staff members, they have trouble recruiting people and when they do they just leave once they realise what a terrible place it is. There are much better products in the market. I heard BlackBerry was a good place to work many years ago but those days are long gone.

I have been working at BlackBerry

    Pros

Great benefits Brand still looks good on your CV

    Cons

    1. Negative toxic environment 2. Extremely political 3. Atmosphere of fear 4. Complete lack of trust throughout the organisation top down and bottom up 5. Dictatorship, controlled by 2-3 individuals at the top. 6. Complete lack of flexibility. Work from home is not allowed and is actively monitored 7. Style of leadership, processes and management of people is extremely old fashioned. This is 2017 not 1997 move with the times. 8. Some of the senior leadership team lack integrity, professionalism and are not inspiring. 9. Work life balance is extremely poor (some functions are worse than others). Expect to be contacted during your annual leave and at weekends. You are expected to devote not just your working time, but your life to this company.  If you value quality family time, think twice about working for this company. 10. When you think of a tech company you think, and expect modern, flexible, creative, inspiring, a work hard play hard (both), open environment.  BlackBerry are none of these things.

I have been working at BlackBerry full-time

    Pros

I came to BlackBerry at a graduate level, and was immediately given opportunities to work on a global scale with senior-level stakeholders. After several years here, I have had exposure to numerous projects as well as challenging and exciting day-to-day work. Compensation wise, I am rewarded very well and manage to maintain a good work-life balance with our flexible working policy (core hours 10am-4pm) Overall, BlackBerry has been a fantastic company to experience at this stage in my career - and even better that I get to work a fantastic team!

    Cons

As with most large companies, BlackBerry is very process driven. I have had the chance to implement and improve some of these processes - however some others are hard to influence.

I worked at BlackBerry full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The money was at the higher side for graduate salaries and commission was fairly easy to get.

    Cons

DO NOT JOIN BLACKBERRY IF GRADUATE!!! Training was 2 weeks in Canada to which all levels joined. Thus it was not tailored to a specific role. Very poor. Management do not care for your development only for you to bring the money in. As a graduate I was promised training and support. The team received no support from line manager as BlackBerry were going through a change. She did not take the time to learn. If you had a big deal it was taken from your. Accounts were shifted all the time and it was impossible to build relationships. Even if you had 99% worked on the deal and the account was then moved and closed the next day the money would go to the new person. Managment picked favorites and ensured they looked good on paper. Was instructed to look at company customer website for my product training. This is not sufficient in my eyes. They old style to selling an older man company.

I have been working at BlackBerry

    Pros

As someone who is in the earlier stages of their career, BlackBerry have surprised me with how well they have rewarded me in terms of compensation and benefits. I can only speak for my team, but we have a very relaxed culture and great work/life balance.

    Cons

Negative perceptions from media/outsiders who still see BlackBerry as a phone company. Because of this I find some people do not take us seriously and this perception needs to change.

    I worked at BlackBerry

    Pros

Decent salary for a entry level role looking to start their career. Good benefit scheme with pensions, private health care and private medical care. OK training and support.

    Cons

Subdued atmosphere and not enough clarity on the job role. Can really see how the previous redundancy remains an issue in the company. I would not recommend BlackBerry as an employer, only to someone who is willing to allow their job to take over their personal life. The negative past of BlackBerry remains an issue.
