I have been working at Boost Media full-time

    Pros

    - I work with the most talented, amazing, friendliest people - Management listens to your ideas and provides open and honest feedback - Clients are great brands and fun to create for - Engineers are smart and stay on top of industry change - Weekly meetings that keep company abreast of what's going on in different projects - A great way for freelancers to make money

    Cons

    - I wish more people had the opportunity to work for tech companies like this. I do not have any cons really. I went from a large company to this small one, and I really appreciate the lack of red tape

I worked at Boost Media full-time

    Pros

    - a few good people left - has the potential to be a useful product for online marketers - great North Beach location - subsidized food once a week (if they even have that anymore)

    Cons

    - arrogant executive team and some know-it-all employees - sales over-promising and misrepresenting product capabilities resulting in high customer churn - unrealistic revenue projections - horrendous office space - seriously, it's a depressing basement - too many meetings that serve little purpose other than to allow the know-it-all's to pontificate

I have been working at Boost Media

    Pros

Work when you want; outrageous income potential if you live in a developing area; great place to hone and grow your writing skills; no preference given to top writers (also a negative because there is no sense of security for the best performers). Victor Mu in writer support is always extremely helpful; good variety of work, which keeps the writing interesting and fresh; after the roll out of an inefficient new site, the company kept the old "classic" site, proving that they are very smart. Also, the company is very fair with writers, which is not the norm for online gigs. For example, when an ad is rejected for a reason it should not be, the writer is compensated. This can account for 5-10% of one's weekly earnings, and thousands at the end of the year. Earlier this year there was a pay mistake where all writers were significantly overpaid. Boost could have simply recalled all that cash, but instead treated it like an advance and then released a huge amount of work, leading to a VERY profitable week for those who took advantage of it. Friends of mine in the writer network actually called in sick to their regular jobs in order to take advantage of this incredible opportunity, which was only available because of how great this business is. Lastly, it's exciting that the company is expanding. There are coming opportunities for graphic design work. All in all, this is a great place to make an extra $1000 per month, but from the numbers that the top performers put out, it is possible to earn $3000-5000 per month consistently.

    Cons

No consistency of available work - some days you can check the site 1000 times and nothing is available, and then a batch of ads come in (could be at 1PM or 4AM); no preference given to top writers (also a plus because it really is a level playing field); inconsistent instructions from advertisers that are sometimes contradictory (for example, the current ad from the advertiser might have a certain style or sales promo, but if you mimic that style or include the promo, you could get a rejection). There is no way to network with writers and staff. There is no stated incentive for writers to bring in clients. One friend of mine who does very well with the site tried to make some money by bringing in clients, and the feedback he got was "we don't have a position for you in sales." He didn't actually want a job; he just wanted to be paid for bringing in revenue.

I worked at Boost Media for less than a year

    Pros

Good and smart people. The people who are trying to make this work. It's unfortunate but the place is a mess. These people will go down with the ship in the hopes of turning it around. But every last one of them knows there's no hope.

    Cons

3 layoffs in 9 months.... THREE. Stuck in a bad situation. Nowhere to turn. No way for this company to fix its issues. Product is a joke, sales people can't sell, and can't retain customers. Losing almost a million dollars a month, I think, and only has 5 million left in the bank.
