I have been working at Boston Consulting Group full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Exposure to management. Travel around the world if you want to. Accelerated career path.

    Cons

Poor work life balance at times. Travel can get overwhelming. Easy to get into either vicious cycles or positive spirals if not mentally prepared.

    Advice to Management

Understand there are various different profiles to consultants on the job. Industry hires generally need a bit more runway to get the hang of the job - which is very different from the traditional associate path. One key for success for BCG going forward is to ensure we tailor different paths for various backgrounds in order to truly have the diverse backgrounds & experiences that make us better as a whole.

I have been working at Boston Consulting Group full-time

    Pros

Business support teams make this group a true pleasure to work at. Working day in, day out with some of the highest level minds on the planet. Benefits include: fully paid health coverage for the fam, generous time off for the junior level staff, an industry leading luxury travel policy. Training is person, not career, centered. The training and personal development I've received has provided me with some of the...

    Cons

Negative experiences almost always derive from our position as a client services firm, not internally.

I have been working at Boston Consulting Group full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great people, amazing office culture, entrepeneurial feel given smaller and growing office size (~40 people)

    Cons

Limited control / choice in projects, locations, industries. A lot of travelling abroad especially during quieter periods in Athens client base

    Advice to Management

Give people more choice on types of projects they work on and industries they specialize in. Give more choices for travelling beyond Middle East

I have been working at Boston Consulting Group full-time for less than a year

    Pros

People are very sharp and you will learn a lot. High responsibility given and pressure is to perform and carry your workload. Teammates are generally supportive but help can be limited depending on how heavy the workload is. Opportunity to travel but generally to the same place. Some people you work with can be very amazing and willing to teach but others can have other priorities.

    Cons

Hours can be very long. It is not unusual for 1 to 2am nights and you hear from peers of stories for projects going to 3am and 4am nights. Too much emphasis on PS work and a lack of diversified opportunities to work on different industries and types of projects. Training is not that relevant for people new to industry and can be improved. Not specific to BCG but there is a lack of fluid exit opportunities in Dubai with...

    Advice to Management

Track hours more accurately and allow consultants to do projects outside of region. This will lead to perception more that the office is shared with the global system.

I worked at Boston Consulting Group full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Awesome bread and circuses- benefits, offices, travel perks are incredible. The consulting staff is brilliant and nice. The company provides for and cares about employees.

    Cons

IT is a disaster. Management completely out of touch with staff, Directors and top-talent leaving in droves, lack of respect for and zero diversity in decision-making folks (take a look at the gender and cultural make up of the Senior Leadership Team). "Fake Agile" consultant mimicry and no one who actually has any execution experience. Recycling of 20-year veterans into less visible positions to try the same tired...

    Advice to Management

BCG Partners should assess the cultural health of IT staff and effectiveness per dollar of IT project spend and hold management accountable. There are some really strong, hard working, team members, but leadership is impotent and arrogant.
