I worked at Boston Consulting Group full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

I learnt a lot in my time at BCG, particularly how to analyse data and present insights. I have developed these skills in a way that I don't think would be possible in most other companies.

    Cons

The Knowledge Team track is challenging - progression can be slow, meaning that it may only be a medium term option for those who are super ambitious. However there is better work-life balance, and exit opportunities can still be attractive.

    Advice to Management

Provide a clearer path for progression for junior KT staff and/or a defined route to Expert Consultant Track.

I worked at Boston Consulting Group full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    · High salary · Smart colleagues · Team events, retreats · Other benefits

    Cons

    · 12+ hours of work a day · Nature of projects vary depending on office clients (meaning you could be stuck in boring stuff for a while if you are not lucky and play your cards well) Advise for future associates out there: This is not job for everyone (I don't mean that you can't do it, it is just that you will not enjoy it/you will be unhappy), make sure you speak to other people (the more, the better) doing the...

    Advice to Management

How about a change in the structure? The way projects are sold sometimes makes life really hard for those underneath (and also for those above). Let's be honest, how much more money do upper management need?

"Great company if you accept the "away from home""

    StarStarStarStarStar
      Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

I worked at Boston Consulting Group full-time

      Pros

      - Great colleagues and infrastructure - Tons of resources available - Great office locations - Travel and expense benefits

      Cons

      - Long hours - Clients can be difficult to handle from time to time - A lot of colleagues / friends leave before you do - Inconsistent promotion cycles between offices

      Advice to Management

Streamline promotion cycles to promote the "one company idea". This includes tenure credit for transfers and alignment of job titles across offices.

I have been working at Boston Consulting Group full-time for more than a year

      Pros

Amazingly clever colleagues harvested from Oxbridge Loads of money, both salary and what they willing to spend on events etc Opportunity to make suggestions and do interesting non-work stuff in "magic time"... if you have the energy left Growth and exposure

      Cons

Tedious work and zero time for life outside it ? Excessive expectations and somewhat cutthroat Elitist, workaholic and competitive colleagues propagate the above - you need to be like this, too, to thrive. Very hierarchical and those outside the consulting business are second class citizens
