I worked at British American Tobacco full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Employees are encouraged to take responsibilities, encouraged to develop their skills, open management style where views of employees on matters affecting company or improvements to processes are positively received. Opportunities to move across functions and geographies and above all an excellent paymaster!

    Cons

Should enforce a policy of mandatory maximum period in any given management role, especially when excellent performance level has reached.

    Pros

Great work-life balance; good promotion prospects; many international opportunities (though decreasing b/c of cost cuts); possibility to work across different departments; relatively relaxed and laid back culture.

    Cons

Slow decision making process; Lack of transparency in promotions; Neutral pay (against popular beliefs of high remunerations); Current cost cuts limit international assignment possibilities

    Advice to Management

More dynamic culture and decision making process; more transparency in promoting employees; less changes in the strategy and company's vision

I have been working at British American Tobacco full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

International company. Good work life balance.

    Cons

It used to be a great company to work for, but after endless rounds of cost cutting, most of the good things were dramatically reduced: Training, benefits, HCs, T&E, expats, variable pay, celebration, workshops etc... as a consquence, many good people left

    Advice to Management

This is a sunset industry with a controversial product, we must pay above average if we want to attract and keep talented people.

    Pros

I worked for this great company for 18 years, starting as a junior staff and progressed to several senior leadership roles. I stayed this long because it was such a caring company with many nice people. It invested lots of resources in career development and provided very competitive benefits.

    Cons

Because it is a big corporation, sometimes things are slow.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good management practices!
