Conflict based culture - the more conflict you create, the more you will grow.

    Advice to Management

Turnover cost is very high and the main reason is not because lack of talent. but because of talent burnout.

I have been working at British American Tobacco full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

BAT is an amazing company to work for, for a whole host of reasons! - It is by far my favorite career-move to date! . . .

    - Amazing culture - people are friendly, engaging, outgoing, and enjoy their work.
    - Amazing opportunity in terms of personal growth - offices all over the world, exciting new programmes / ventures / functions constantly arising!
    - Senior Management are carefully selected and excellent leaders / mentors almost all of the time
    - In terms of benefits - the company clearly has an interest in their employees wellbeing, and goes out of there way to look after people
    - The actual Office Locations are amazing in whatever city you visit! (especially the London Headquarters)
    - It is an exciting / engaging place to work, and despite being a tobacco company, is also one of the most caring, ethical and socially responsible companies that I have ever come across!

    Cons

    - It obviously has a small amount of social-stigma that the minority of people associate with a Tobacco company, however when educated on the amount of charitable / CSR work that we carry out, along with the fact that as an organisation we are leading the way in next-generation products and bringing to market alternative non-tobacco products to expand consumers choices (like being the first/only company to have actual government backing for our alternative non-tobacco products to be used in the medical profession) - people soon realise that many of the assumptions of what a company like ours is/does are quite innaccurate! . . .

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work! . . . and give me a raise! ;) . . .

I worked at British American Tobacco full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Global organisation. Working towards a centralised, global business model.

    Cons

Male dominated, slow to implement strategic initiatives. Internal career progress is based upon being part of the boys club rather than individual merit or performance delivery.

    Advice to Management

Apply learnings from outside the organisation, and recruit some fresh senior leaders to lead the organisation and modernise the culture.

I have been working at British American Tobacco full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    - cash rich organisation
    - great opportunities in markets to learn and develop

    Cons

    - unclear vision of the future of the organisation
    - from mid management upwards it is about whom you know rather then what you know and deliver
    - decision making is slow and even once a decision is made, it often is reversed
    - bullying is tolerated, particularly high up in the organisation

    Advice to Management

Look at the actual performance of people and provide clarity on what you want BAT to be

    Pros

People working for a while in this company usually do not notice what a good company is. There's a very good overall reward package, the company has excellent practices in order to develop its employees and there's no layers when it comes to do your job, so you can work with very senior people at the top level on a regular basis.

    Cons

The company compares a lot with itself and there's a lack of vision in terms of what are the trends in the market. This is not only about products.
Innovation is something that we talk a lot, but it takes years to become a reality. This is cross-function and you can see either when we are talking about products, processes or technology.
Also in the past years the measures to keep the business going have been a bit excessive when it comes to costs.

    Pros

Great culture, flexible schedule opportunities, fair management, a giant amount of opportunities to develop various skills - you really feel yourself a stong and competitive professional after several years in BAT. You get budget to realize interesting projects. This is a place where everything is up to your skills and ambitions.

    Cons

regulated area and not easy to share everything you do with society

    Advice to Management

To adjust to new generation requirements, be more modern and progressive.
