    Pros

Good team players lots of advice if needed and fully supported with training requirements . There are good courses on offer at Horsley court. Planning essentials and supply chain optimisation were very informative

    Cons

Long hours can be a bit click in some departments . Some can be a bit aloof
The set objectives changed and I had 7 line managers in 4 years !!!

    Advice to Management

    Do more floor walking

I have been working at British American Tobacco full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

In general smart people and decent atmosphere. Pay is also good with higher variable vs other industries (up to 40% in my case)

    Cons

Bureaucracy and politics at its best. Zero empowerment. Nothing gets approved without going to the boss's, boss's boss. In order to progress in career you need to show impact which typically means show off a lot, make sure you make friends everywhere and you pick a good mentor (yes, a mentor is mandatory).

Overall tobacco industry (new generations products like vaping or THP included) are super mega hyper regulated which means there's zero freedom to operate.

Last but not least and back to the first point, because of such bureaucracy, protocols and processes, everything is beyond slow. Takes ages to decide on something.

    Advice to Management

Streamline processes and teams. Empower people. Remove the networking and connections way of operating where only those who make many friends will progress. Promote talent, empowerment and those who bring new ideas, not friends.

I worked at British American Tobacco full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Focus on personal development and opportunities to get involved in projects and work streams outside of immediate roles. Lots of opportunity for cross functional working

    Cons

Poor leadership of some internal departments where work stream and workload accountabilities not always held. Can lead to continuous challenging and ownership of workload, which should not be necessary.

I have been working at British American Tobacco full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Great reward package
    Great colleagues
    Business is doing well

    Cons

Policies and practices are good on paper, but not always followed through. A lot of time is spent on talent management without a visible benefit from it.
Line management can be a hit and miss: some are good and some just manage upwards.

    Advice to Management

Stop talking about diversity and start acting on it. Don't expect everyone to fit in the same mould!
Pay more attention on leadership: how people manage their teams and not how they manage their managers!

I have been working at British American Tobacco full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Restaurant, facilities and rooftop (if you are based in London)
    - Career change possibilities
    - Best people around
    - Benefits and bonus
    - Work with people from all around the World

    Cons

    - Could be less formal (like casual Fridays) and improve some of the processes to speed up simple tasks
    - Hard to understand how to make everything works in the beginning. Simple things like having your desk phone ready or access to the network folders can take a while.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing the job, it is good to know we have some of the best people in the market around!

I worked at British American Tobacco as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits and superb restaurant. F1 team at the time which was very exciting. Good people to work with and enjoy a coffee with at the in house Starbucks.

    Cons

Obviously smoking is not an ideal product to be promoting and this can play on ones conscience. Senior management could be aloof and create an us and them culture.

    Advice to Management

    Be more inclusive.
