I have been working at British American Tobacco full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

BAT UK provides great career opportunities and gives people opportunities to grow and challenge themselves regardless of age or experience.
The pay is pretty good, and in a good year the bonus is very generous.
There is a very positive culture (it's fun, relaxed and informal). Anyone can go and talk to senior management, there are no airs and graces and no big egos.

    Cons

It's not really a 'con' as such, but it's hard work! You definitely have to work for your money. Sometimes it feels as though some departments are more 'up against it' than others, which can feel a bit unfair, but it tends to even itself out across the year.

    Advice to Management

Keep on providing the career opportunities and make sure they are available to everyone. Have more of a focus on flexible working arrangements.

I worked at British American Tobacco full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Salary/Benefits / International Opps
    Surviving Feels Great!
    Some Fantastic People
Company doing very well so very nice bonuses for senior leaders

    Cons

Extremely high pressure during specific times of the year. It is hard to maintain CAGR when you are selling cigs.

Use HR as a strategic asset and not a necessary evil... let them do what they say on their tin. Most of it is just smoke and mirrors. Not on purpose, mind you - but "people are our biggest asset" has to be said in today's environment.
It feels like an empty statement. The phrase often is left in the dust b/c $$ comes first. People, as a topic, is always last to be discussed. Leaders get ahead b/c they delivered the numbers - with no regard to the type of People Leader they are.

    Advice to Management

Too Much time Talking in Meetings! Aren't you tired of listening to each other say the same thing over and over?
GMs and MDs need to be evaluated on a 3 yr span - when a bonus is off the charts one year and almost non-existent the next... with the same guys in charge... something is wrong.

Be innovative (!!) with ways to better develop dual-career people. Smart men attract Smart women and vice versa. You are losing talent b/c of forced relocation for development.

I worked at British American Tobacco full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good people, knowledgable company, old set of managers always looked after the staff, good systems to work
Team members that stuck out for you and stuck together

    Cons

New management only in it for themselves
    Bad pay
Work being done has no credibility to it
Racism and bulling apparent in all departments especially the sales team
People steal your ideas and pass it off as their own
    No career progression
Always want more and more from for nothing
No appreciation for the work that you have done
    No flexibility
Huge turnover rate of around 60% in the company that alone says something about the company

    Advice to Management

Leave and actually put someone in charge who's knows what they are doing

Great people in the sales teams which makes this job really
    Some really good managers
Some good benefits which include private healthcare.

    Cons

Bullying by some managers on very experienced staff
Pay is propped up by free shares that you lose if you don't stay for 3 years.

    Pros

Loads of opportunity and well paid. The training at BAT is amazing and they really take time to spend time with you.

    Cons

Expectations are sometimes to high and not attainable regardless of how much work you put in, in an industry that is forever changing.

    Advice to Management

As there is lots of favoritism sometimes they need to not be so narrow minded and see that there are other people with bags of potential.

    Cons
