I worked at British American Tobacco full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good perks, nights out etc (but not a fair trade for your job becoming unbearable)

    Good severance package

    Cons

Don't understand the vaping market or consumers

Too much ego/vanity tied up in Vype to invest elsewhere

Good and hardworking staff run into the ground

Redundancy process shambolic, still awaiting answers almost a month after finishing with emails being ignored or the buck passed if you do get a response

    Nobody takes responsibility

Too large to be streamlined or agile, incredibly slow to get anything done

Those who throw others under the bus get ahead, even if incompetent

The more you do the more is expected of you but with staff levels slashed, not sustainable

    No support from management

    Profit over people

Price loyal customers on fixed incomes out of using the products, used Brexit as an excuse when we were told by senior management it was purely to make more profit and costs hadn't increased.

    Advice to Management

Don't buy businesses you don't understand and think you know better!

I worked at British American Tobacco full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Salary/Benefits / International Opps
    Surviving Feels Great!
    Some Fantastic People
Company doing very well so very nice bonuses for senior leaders

    Cons

Extremely high pressure during specific times of the year. It is hard to maintain CAGR when you are selling cigs.

Use HR as a strategic asset and not a necessary evil... let them do what they say on their tin. Most of it is just smoke and mirrors. Not on purpose, mind you - but "people are our biggest asset" has to be said in today's environment.
It feels like an empty statement. The phrase often is left in the dust b/c $$ comes first. People, as a topic, is always last to be discussed. Leaders get ahead b/c they delivered the numbers - with no regard to the type of People Leader they are.

    Advice to Management

Too Much time Talking in Meetings! Aren't you tired of listening to each other say the same thing over and over?
GMs and MDs need to be evaluated on a 3 yr span - when a bonus is off the charts one year and almost non-existent the next... with the same guys in charge... something is wrong.

Be innovative (!!) with ways to better develop dual-career people. Smart men attract Smart women and vice versa. You are losing talent b/c of forced relocation for development.

    Pros

Good team players lots of advice if needed and fully supported with training requirements . There are good courses on offer at Horsley court. Planning essentials and supply chain optimisation were very informative

    Cons

Long hours can be a bit click in some departments . Some can be a bit aloof
The set objectives changed and I had 7 line managers in 4 years !!!

    Advice to Management

    Do more floor walking
