I worked at British American Tobacco full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Employees are encouraged to take responsibilities, encouraged to develop their skills, open management style where views of employees on matters affecting company or improvements to processes are positively received. Opportunities to move across functions and geographies and above all an excellent paymaster!

    Cons

Should enforce a policy of mandatory maximum period in any given management role, especially when excellent performance level has reached.

I worked at British American Tobacco full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

global company with strong business performance

    Cons

They seem to have forgotten the human side of human resources, mistreating committed and hard workers to the point to breach contractual conditions. Management seems to want people to do the job not caring about developing and supporting individuals to succeed, on the contrary, placing the blame seems preferable to constructively achieve goals as a team
I am seriously concerned about the HR practices I have witnessed in Globe House, the HR management did not hesitate to unfairly dismiss a team member, not only by breaching all internal procedures and irresponsibly disregarding good practices, but with a completely unnecessary humiliating approach. If this continues to be the HR leadership this is not a recommendable place to work.

    Advice to Management

Management in HR needs to review the way they want to treat employees
Leaders and managers should be reminded about the accountability in developing high performance teams and individuals. Also about their role in making a company a good place to work,
People managing and communication skills are only the basics, as an organization that wants to have the best talent of the class, they should start by having inspiring and capable leaders, this is certainly not the current case in HR/Reward teams (BAT globe house)

I worked at British American Tobacco full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

High performance culture, international career opportunities for high potentials. US acquisition will place it at top of tree. Truly diverse in culture. People from any country can grow and get to the top and this runs in the company's bloodstream.

    Cons

High performance culture leads to stiff internal competition and very high stretch targets in some areas. You need to be resilient and totally focussed on delivering stretch targets to thrive and this is not for everyone.

    Advice to Management

Keep the resilience and think of the people. The new product world is exciting with new digital opportunities for marketers to complement the incredible trade marketing strengths in non traditional channels.

    Pros

Loads of opportunity and well paid. The training at BAT is amazing and they really take time to spend time with you.

    Cons

Expectations are sometimes to high and not attainable regardless of how much work you put in, in an industry that is forever changing.

    Advice to Management

As there is lots of favoritism sometimes they need to not be so narrow minded and see that there are other people with bags of potential.
