I have been working at British American Tobacco full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

BAT UK provides great career opportunities and gives people opportunities to grow and challenge themselves regardless of age or experience.
The pay is pretty good, and in a good year the bonus is very generous.
There is a very positive culture (it's fun, relaxed and informal). Anyone can go and talk to senior management, there are no airs and graces and no big egos.

    Cons

It's not really a 'con' as such, but it's hard work! You definitely have to work for your money. Sometimes it feels as though some departments are more 'up against it' than others, which can feel a bit unfair, but it tends to even itself out across the year.

    Advice to Management

Keep on providing the career opportunities and make sure they are available to everyone. Have more of a focus on flexible working arrangements.

I worked at British American Tobacco full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good people, knowledgable company, old set of managers always looked after the staff, good systems to work
Team members that stuck out for you and stuck together

    Cons

New management only in it for themselves
    Bad pay
Work being done has no credibility to it
Racism and bulling apparent in all departments especially the sales team
People steal your ideas and pass it off as their own
    No career progression
Always want more and more from for nothing
No appreciation for the work that you have done
    No flexibility
Huge turnover rate of around 60% in the company that alone says something about the company

    Advice to Management

Leave and actually put someone in charge who's knows what they are doing

I have been working at British American Tobacco full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great people in the sales teams which makes this job really
    Some really good managers
Some good benefits which include private healthcare.

    Cons

Bullying by some managers on very experienced staff
Pay is propped up by free shares that you lose if you don't stay for 3 years.
Always want you to do more out of usual hours.

    Advice to Management

Make sure you pick the right person for the role as many people are out into roles because their face fits. Make the basic salary more appealing.

    Pros

Loads of opportunity and well paid. The training at BAT is amazing and they really take time to spend time with you.

    Cons

Expectations are sometimes to high and not attainable regardless of how much work you put in, in an industry that is forever changing.

    Advice to Management

As there is lots of favoritism sometimes they need to not be so narrow minded and see that there are other people with bags of potential.

    Competitive commission structure
    Competitive base salary

    Cons

No link between field and office
    Slow chain of command
    Limited progression for field team

    Advice to Management

Look to manage the link between field staff and office staff more effectively; improve internal communications as there is very little and can be very slow; look at ways to develop staff in more ways than 6 week induction.

    Pros

Well established company making waves and beating the competition.

    Cons

Remuneration is below market anchor. Tick box culture. High staff turnover.

    Advice to Management

Less red tape. A move towards "a happy worker is a productive worker" would be nice.

    Pros

Extremely enjoyable events the company put on when doing product launches or training. The people I met within my team were very nice, helpful and taught me a lot.

    Cons

My new manager basically 'managed' me out of my position based on previous agreements with my old manager and the sheer amount of pressure the new one put me under made me fail. There is never time to do things properly and members from other teams cheat to achieve goals - who can get 26 introductions in one day?

    Advice to Management

Listen to staff more, less pressure and more rewards for achieving targets other than a yearly bonus. Oh, and the amount of time spent of laptops outside of work is insane, every single week you'd spend hours and hours of personal time doing laptop work because it simply never ever ends.

I have been working at British American Tobacco full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Everything in BAT is based on performance, attitude and leadership qualities. The salary, bonus package and other benefits are extremely competitive.

    Cons

The territories are usually too large for Territory managers at times leading to inefficiencies and a lot of duplicated reports taking valuable time.

    Advice to Management

Reports should be merged and increase the number of Territory managers for greater effectiveness infield.
