    Pros

Well paid at all levels, lots of employee support and training available. Once outside of the call centre the environment changes - lots of autonomy and you do feel like you are contributing. Flexible working available in some roles - home working for example.

    Cons

Senior leadership team change frequently, re-organisations are frequent (although lots of support and options if affected). Lots of "just do it" instructions from SLT

I worked at British Gas full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great comprehensive company policies. Good reward packages. Salary is inline with the market. Good development opportunities and training packages. Lovely site to work in. People are very helpful. Lots of activities involving the staff. Simple strategic priorities and behaviours. Ideal location for those commuting, 5 minutes from the supermarket or 15 minutes from the town centre.

    Cons

Staff are given quality time with managers but managers are not rewarded with the same privilege. Engagement should come from the top down and should include everyone.

    Advice to Management

Senior managers can be too political at times. Prepare people for change before change happens is key. Reward managers that deliver results so they too feel valued opposed to rewarding those that are developing themselves but not actually delivering KPI's set out by the business.

I have been working at British Gas full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great work life balance at head office functions - Staines and Windsor
    Lots of autonomy
Good benefits and salary if you join externally
    Good people

    Cons

Poor senior leadership, a lot of them hide from their staff
Greedy corporate - take too much profit from legacy customers
Old school senior managers stuck in middle / senior management on huge salaries - they couldn't get a role externally but stumble by until they "get found out"
A major case of the emperors news clothes with the current strategy

    Advice to Management

Remember there is an energy business to run
Stop hiding from your middle managers
Work out how to use connected

I have been working at British Gas full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Worked here 6 years and when I started it was a great place to work. It's still a good job and work with some great people. Decent pay for the role I do and hours currently work for me on a fixed shift pattern. Never boring as there is always change and this is mostly for the good of the business and customer. However, the communication of the changes leave a lot to be desired.
Decent benefits and good opportunity if you are willing to work for it.

    Cons

The last 18 months have been difficult. British Gas is a company in trouble and losing customers. Been through a management restructure that was dealt with unfairly and now face changes to T&C' s, working hours and pay that will impact work/life balance for most of the staff. Overall leadership is unclear with little in the way of direction or strategy. I fear things will get worse before they improve at the moment. Systems and processes can be stressfull.

    Advice to Management

Understand the impacts of business decisions on your staff. Communicate clearly. Spend more time on the front line to understand staff & customer issues.

I worked at British Gas full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Salary, struggling to think of anything else

    Cons

Terrible, weak leadership, treat staff awfully. Expect everyone to be a cloned version of themselves. Ignore issues, don't care about health or wellbeing. Do what they like as long as "it's in the best interests of the business". Political culture where egos run riot, high number of deceitful people who will deliberately sabotage their colleagues. This behaviour is actively encouraged. And finally they are proud of how they rip customers off.

    Advice to Management

Gave them loads of advice on how to improve and they just ignore it.

I worked at British Gas full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great management; excellent communication when keeping employees updated; great benefits; termly bonuses.

    Cons

The only con I was able to relate to was that there wasnt much opportunity to grow within the company and develop and progress within the role.

    Advice to Management

I think the management process at British Gas is excellent as everyone is kept in the loop and rewarded employees when deserved.
