I worked at British Gas full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Lots of people focus and personal development, flexible working options also available....takes pride in being a great place to work.

    Cons

Can be very demanding and fast paced - if not really driven can be a challenging organisation to keep up with.

I have been working at British Gas full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Flexible working hours, company car with private use. Can work from home when not required to attend or host meetings

    Cons

Very limited earning potential for managers. Engineers can earn far more than manager. Senior leaders constantly changing the areas of focus. Difficult to motivate engineers as bonus schemes are ineffective at driving the right behaviours, and actually do the opposite.

    Advice to Management

Allow front line managers who are technical to keep a van and complete call out/overtime if they wish to maximise earning potential. Give managers more power to offer financial incentives for direct employees who are productive and not pay contractors double to salary of direct employees.

    Cons

No direction as a company at all. The decision to put the customer service in SA made it impossible to maintain sales.

    Advice to Management

    UK customer service!

    Pros

Great work life balance at head office functions - Staines and Windsor
    Lots of autonomy
Good benefits and salary if you join externally
    Good people

    Cons

Poor senior leadership, a lot of them hide from their staff
Greedy corporate - take too much profit from legacy customers
Old school senior managers stuck in middle / senior management on huge salaries - they couldn't get a role externally but stumble by until they "get found out"
A major case of the emperors news clothes with the current strategy

    Advice to Management

Remember there is an energy business to run
Stop hiding from your middle managers
Work out how to use connected
