I worked at British Gas full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Decent Salary some good people

    Cons

managers are lazy and overpaid as they do as little as possible and have no idea how to do a customer service advisors job, unrealistic targets to meet, certainly not a flexible working pattern job, expected to multi task in every department which is ridiculous and adds more pressure to an already stressful job

    Advice to Management

get a grip on your expectations your managers have no idea how we do our job but expect unrealistic targets, you couldn't care less about genuine staff promoting lazy staff to roles they do not deserve

I have been working at British Gas full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I was given the opportunity to work for British Gas in Smart Metering in 2015, fully trained with an apprenticeship, van, and tool provided from day one. Very well looked after with most of the equipment and tools needed to complete the work safely and in a timely manner. The business tries to live its core values and filter them down to the employees. Ok work life balance

    Cons

IT systems can be challenging, getting them resolved slow and difficult. Just a number too anyone higher than your manager a small voice in a large machine good ideas are slow to happen. Some performance target are a little dubious.

    Advice to Management

Take the time to lesson to the engineers and speed up the communication for both sides.

    Pros

People who work here are great really friendly. Good wages for the role

    Cons

Used to feel like a family but that has changed, too much change done at once which is hard to keep up with

    Advice to Management

Sort out the direction quicker from a director level, everything is mostly implemented with little or no thought

    Cons

Treated like school kids, management is poor, if your not in that circle your not getting anywhere. Progression is minuscule, promised pay rises and no action taken on this. Could go on and on do not work here you will regret it!!

    Advice to Management

    Get some new ones!

I worked at British Gas full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

It use to be a enjoyable job where you was giving your jobs and told to get customers boilers working and repairs and provide advice about filter/cod/powerflush if required.

    Cons

Recently and now I’ve left it’s turnt into a massive sales where manager questions why you order parts and are you sure that covered. Penny pinching while customers spend £300 plus a year on cover but when try to use engineers are pressured to watch parts cost and sell upgrades as that helps your performance.

    Advice to Management

Have some clear messages on what you want from the workforce on the gas side. Perfocmance targets are changed from 1 year to the other. Talking to former colleagues I’ve heard it’s gone back to the old output metric where as before you was briefing us all average times. Someone needs to start looking after the workforce and stop treating us like disposable worthless people.

I worked at British Gas full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Car , colleagues, trusted brand etc.

    Cons

NPS scheme is a joke where your manager is in control of any bonuses you should receive and managers don’t want to be outspoken to their managers etc so they don’t fight for you. Some managers are so arrogant and need bringing down a peg or 2. Who would want to travel an hour to a 5-30 pm appointment having been on the road since 8am ?? No work life balance whatsoever

    Advice to Management

Encourage and back your sales team . It’s very tough selling premium products with targets quite high. Half the sales force are demotivated after 2 weeks once they can’t hit target. Managers not challenging their superiors and having the teams back. Look at share prices. Top management out of their depth.
