I worked at British Gas full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Excellent training for the first 6 weeks. Good salary compared to other call centres. Nice office environment. My manager was great and supportive but this wasn't the same for people on other teams.

    Cons

Opportunities for progression seem to be biased towards the people who shout the loudest rather than those who have put in the graft and consistently hit KPIs

    Advice to Management

Consider progression opportunities to avoid high staff turnover

    Pros

Income van tools apart from that you get treated like children by managers that have no people skills and bully engineers.

    Cons

Terrible bullying culture and a toxic environment to work in. Managers are not trained in management and a basically engineers with reputations for bullying and referred to as go getters.

    Advice to Management

Engineers are treated like children with no dignity or respect by managers who have very little people skills.

Business is very slow at responding to concerns, and always pass the blame onto others rather than accept responsibility

    Advice to Management

    Listen to existing staff

I have been working at British Gas full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Ok to work for, pay scales Ok for the job.

    Cons

Constant fear of job insecurity. Some people treated better than others. Some lazy staff constantly out smoking or on their mobiles which shouldn't be tolerated as there is private information available. Know some staff who check who lives at certain addresses. Extra payments made for 'reporting' staff to management knows as 'money in your pocket'.

    Advice to Management

Need a clear out of staff who take the proverbial with smoking/toilet breaks and stop creating an atmosphere of reporting other members of staff just for £30.

Bad management, engineers morale lower than ever, lost our bonus scheme, targeted for absoloutly everything. Emergency callout is a joke atm

    Pros

Good working environment and friendly staff.

    Cons

Little structured development opportunities and prospects of promotion. Little direction or interaction from senior management.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your staff more and provide them with better structured development opportunities which are in line with their future goals. Dedicate more time to your people than your processes. Take care of your people who will in turn take care of your processes.

I have been working at British Gas full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Genuinely look after employee welfare and opportunities for training and development are available if required. Culture is quite good where bullying type behaviour would never be tolerated

    Cons

Big organisation so obviously lower down the chain you will feel like just another number. But overall nothing too negative to say.

    Advice to Management

Seek greater employee collaboration before foisting ill advised business decisions on then which have ignored the ground reality.
