I worked at British Gas full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Decent Salary and bonus but only if you meet your targets unless your favoured then you get top bonus with poor targets and stats

    Cons

expected to do everything under one umbrella threshold, management are extremely lazy as are certain members of staff who get paid for doing nothing and are bumped up to the highest bonus bracket with nothing to back up the reasons for this csm's are aware of this yet do nothing the CEO needs to get there finger out and sort out the deadwood from those committed to doing whats best for the customer without trying to ram sales down their throats everything is about promoting and very little about customer service to the customer TL'S know nothing about how to be a customer service advisor

    Advice to Management

sort your management team out and stop allowing lazy sods to get paid for nothing everyone should have the same opportunities yet it only goes to people who are favoured by their manager

    Pros

good company to work for, friendly people, very good training facilities available to all staff, a very good subsidised canteen

    Cons

Some of the targets are quite high and can be difficult to achieve in the time allowed, sometimes there is pressure to do overtime

    Advice to Management

Allow more time to complete tasks and more training if required instead of focusing on targets. Listen to the staff

I worked at British Gas full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Decent pay, looks good on resume. Working with engineers on dispatch. Fast paced. Made good friends. Some managers were great.

    Cons

Company culture and cutthroat mentality. Operations was known as the lion’s den. Managers very hit or miss. Stressful; often get shouted at by customers because of having to reschedule appointments Entire departments disbanded because of the constant moving around they do and redundancies. No job security or upward mobility. Had several abusive managers, including one who smiled to her manager when I complained of bullying, then waited till he was gone to take me into a room and shout at me. Cold, clinical.

    Advice to Management

    Stop treating employees as dispensable

    Pros

Well paid at all levels, lots of employee support and training available. Once outside of the call centre the environment changes - lots of autonomy and you do feel like you are contributing. Flexible working available in some roles - home working for example.

    Cons

Senior leadership team change frequently, re-organisations are frequent (although lots of support and options if affected). Lots of "just do it" instructions from SLT
