I worked at British Gas full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

People who work here are great really friendly. Good wages for the role

    Cons

Used to feel like a family but that has changed, too much change done at once which is hard to keep up with

    Advice to Management

Sort out the direction quicker from a director level, everything is mostly implemented with little or no thought

I have been working at British Gas full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Some fantastic leaders although senior management can be quite detached. Good bonus for those who work hard. But this too is having the goal posts moved. Good benefits. Good wage but extremely high pressured job.

    Cons

Continual change, often without embedding the change it’s moved on. A culture where if you don’t agree with a process or decision you’re deemed to be negative and this is held against you. Recently brought in an online management system for all HR and day to day tracking and it’s not fit for purpose. In extreme cases people’s wages are wrong after absences from work. HR centralised so very difficult to amend in a timely fashion. Often run on fear, and a very high pressured job.

I worked at British Gas full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

good company to work for, friendly people, very good training facilities available to all staff, a very good subsidised canteen

    Cons

Some of the targets are quite high and can be difficult to achieve in the time allowed, sometimes there is pressure to do overtime

    Advice to Management

Allow more time to complete tasks and more training if required instead of focusing on targets. Listen to the staff

I worked at British Gas full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

benefits: holidays, pension scheme, eye care, costs towards education.

    Cons

Good place to work unless you get management who haven't been filtered out for years. they will bully you and the union will not help. The union reps are only there to get ahead themselves. Avoid the bullies (idiots), and you can go far.

    Advice to Management

review the people who you have in level 6 and above positions: should they really be there?

I have been working at British Gas full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

They look after their workers pretty well, and invest in their development. Better pay and conditions than most equivalent jobs.

    Cons

There is a real culture of cronyism, and it can be difficult to justify working for a hugely profitable utility.

    Advice to Management

Don't try to fool the public that the company believes in helping people more than profit, no-one's falling for it. Those who believe utilities shouldn't make profits will never accept it. BG is a huge, important, profit-making, tax-paying, future investing commercial business. Be honest and proud.
