I have been working at British Heart Foundation full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The BHF is very focused on their values to be brave, compassionate, driven and informed and promote a good work environment in which these values can be expressed. The blend between Charity and Retail leaves an interesting and friendly community dynamic with full time employees, volunteers and supporters/donors. Ultimately working toward the goal to "Beat Heartbreak Forever" adds value and pride to the work that you are doing. Healthy work-life balance with realistic opening and closing times. Good opportunities for volunteers to progress into paid roles.

    Cons

Low pay for an Assistant Manager role, with not many opportunities to progress upwards from the position. Largely hands off on some of the big decisions that affect your day-to-day operations.

"Only thing that makes it worthwhile is the store team"

    2.0
Current Employee - Store Manager in Nottingham, England, England

I have been working at British Heart Foundation full-time

    Pros

The very few staff in shops are great The volunteers are wonderful people Keeps you fit Sorting deliveries is like treasure hunting

    Cons

Very poor pay for intense workload Lots of pressure Volunteers not truly appreciated by the company- not including their stores appreciation Unrealistic targets Poor planning for upcoming technological events - ie stock take/gift aid tablets Serious risk of bodily damage - arthritis, back problems, sciatica Stress. Every single manager has it. Does not feel like a charity, just a business.

Hello there. Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. The passion and motivation of our people is often mentioned in our colleague reviews :). Like many charity organisations the outbreak of the pandemic has had an impact on our funds and has meant that we've had to re-align some of our priorities. . We have put various measures in place to support our colleagues as much as possible and to keep them connected during this time. Thank you for making a life saving difference! BHF Recruitment team.
