I worked at Brunswick Group full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Good exposure to clients

    Cons

    - Pay does not match the demand from juniors - Toxic laddish culture with poor behaviour and bullying from senior management - HR known for using employee's struggles and illnesses against them - High levels of nepotism, hence why there is low levels of ethnic diversity - Casual racism - regular occurrence for white staff to mix ethnic staff's names - Poor retention of ethnic diverse staff - Bullying culture and intimidation is used if junior members don't want to do client work that goes against their morals - If you don't fit in culturally, you tend to be given poor work and left behind

I have been working at Brunswick Group full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Many genuinely interesting projects. Workload means you’re upskilled very quickly. You get to work with some really intelligent, skilled people - some partners and directors are the crème de la crème of politics, law and other areas.

    Cons

It feels like a firm from the 1990s. Workload can at times feel impossible, you’re expected to cancel plans on evenings and weekends (I have also been asked to cancel holiday and pressured to work when ill) at very short notice. This also means that the pay is often very low for the hours you end up doing. Management will say you can manage your workload and choose to work in areas that interest you, but the truth is that execs and ADs have very little control over what they do. There’s no awareness or consideration of mental health at work, especially at partner and director level, despite some effort from HR. There are also absolutely no checks and balances when it comes to the behaviour of senior staff, some of whom can act pretty inappropriately towards juniors and especially support staff. HR’s hands seem to be bound on a lot of welfare points.

I worked at Brunswick Group full-time

    Pros

Fantastic team to work with and great support team.

    Cons

There isn’t any work life balance and the support staff are spoken down to. A lot of the senior people are rude.

    I worked at Brunswick Group

    Pros

Good exposure to high profile companies, autonomy to a point and no direct line manager.

    Cons

The firm is hugely hierarchical, particularly at a junior level. Execs and ADs are hugely over worked, as it's a reverse-pyramid structure with to 40 partners in London versus at times 4 execs. It means there's a huge lack of flexibility at a junior level on what you work on and the hours you work. Execs are regularly in the office before 7am and remain at their desk until after 8pm. It's a 24/7 job and you're expected to be available and responsive at all hours of the night and weekend. When you start, you're told that you can carve your own path and focus on areas / sectors that interest you. In reality, there is such a resourcing crisis at the junior end with turnover worse than anywhere I've seen that this rarely happens .
