Really good culture and environments. Some highly talented engineers to work with and learn from coupled with great projects.

I worked at BuroHappold full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Interesting projects Good benefits e.g. sick pay, holidays Nice office environment and nice people

    Cons

Lack of flexible working Woeful project management leading to preventable losses and dishonest reporting Unpaid overtime expected at ridiculous levels - one engineer regularly worked up to 20 hours overtime a week and rarely if ever took TOIL. This is expected and those who work only their contracted hours are penalised. Salary terrible for non-engineers

I have been working at BuroHappold full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

really interesting projects so great learning on th e job. Partners and leaders try really hard to engage and listen to staff and include people's views with things like staff surveys, rungway app, yammer etc.

    Cons

some people have never worked anywhere else so thinkthe grass is greener - they take things for granted rather than see what's good about working in a smaller, friendly firm as opposed to the big corporates that engineering firms have become

    Advice to Management

be open to flexible working and encourage even more innovation

I worked at BuroHappold full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The people are great and make it a lovely place to work. Very social if you are in business services but not much opportunity to social with the more senior engineers. Good location if in Bath as close to train station and bus station and can commute by walking or bike.

    Cons

Employees in business services are looked down on by the engineers and will not really socialise with them. There seems to be no adherence to the internal rules. Many of the partners just run projects without any thought for the consequences or without the correct approvals being sought and when challenged they do not care. I have never worked in such a contradictory place. Some of the directors and associate directors...

    Advice to Management

This company could be amazing but things need to change. Bring the partners in line as they make a mockery of the whole of internal governance and prevent many business service teams being able to do their jobs which are to protect the interests of the company. Pay support staff more as knowledge is key to ensuring that the back office stuff keeps working but there is a high turnover of staff in this respect, these people...

I have been working at BuroHappold full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Smart innovative engineers, true experts in their fields. Agile working culture where they recognize family/outside commitments. YEF and lots of activities to get involved in (lunchtime runs, mindfulness, etc) Company has a decent reputation in the industry so winning work is made easier.

    Cons

Sadly there is bullying from senior management and it's an environment you face needs to fit for you to succeed. Management style is poor, led by individuals that have gained their positions due to people leaving / being in the business for so long, rather than actually having the skills and capabilities to lead and inspire a team. The business doesn't listen to feedback or suggestions from their newer younger workforce,...

    Advice to Management

Listen to your people. Review your line management and those in senior positions, look at the teams and identify - are these people actually happy and being led? Or are they doing their jobs through gritted teeth.
