    "Great company, Poor HR systems"

    StarStarStarStarStar
    Former Intern - Summer Intern

I worked at BuroHappold for less than a year

    Pros

Really good culture and environments. Some highly talented engineers to work with and learn from coupled with great projects.

    Cons

HR took months to return with an offer, by which time I'd decided to go elsewhere.

I have been working at BuroHappold part-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great flexibility, a modern fresh energy. Great projects.

    Cons

Pay progression and promotion not transparent. In large part, ability to progressr relies on ability to network within the company. Does not invest in growth of talent as well as it could.

Current Employee - Trainee Electrical Engineer in London, England

I have been working at BuroHappold full-time for less than a year

    Pros

There are many advantages working for BH and here are few: Great opportunity to work on high profile projects Great atmosphere to work Diversity- you can possibly meet every race in the company Friendly team Flexibility to move across other disciplines if you want to Excellent YEF Weekly activities

    Cons

Although there are people from different countries working here which is a good idea for diversity but I noticed that there are basically no disabled persons employed in this company which is not an equal opportunity place to work at all. Poor management, I've been working here for almost 6 months as a Trainee Electrical Engineer and only had 1 team meeting. Poor mentoring

    Advice to Management

Mentoring the junior staff properly Regular team meeting to be organised at least once a week or one every fortnight

I have been working at BuroHappold for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - Great Projects - Amazing individuals - Flexible hours - Social events (in house)

    Cons

    - Lack of leadership - Lack of motivation from senior level - Lack of technical skills from most of the job leaders (pure managers) - Lack of knowledge sharing - Poor resource management - Office work strategy to be reviewed - Sadly this office seems to be going downhill

    Advice to Management

Change staff management strategy Understand the value of your resources. Try to understand if your resources are happy ( speak with the people who are doing the work, not with their managers).

I have been working at BuroHappold

    Pros

Great projects with top architects. Very talented people.

    Cons

Salaries below average and Gender inequality. Female senior engineers earn less than engineers.

    Advice to Management

A proper salary scheme and career plan should be implemented without gender prejudice.

I have been working at BuroHappold

    Pros

BH has a reasonably flat structure so you get access to leaders of the business and international colleagues quite readily which is great for networking and informal mentoring, this also means that you can be given exposure to great projects from an early stage and gain a lot of useful experience very quickly, working on a mixture of international and local projects. There is a nice culture at BH, laid back but driven at the same time. People are given the freedom to work autonomously and with others and to be creative and curious in their roles.

    Cons

BH doesn't always get it quite right (which company does) but it does care about its people and is passionate about design excellence and working on the best projects and that means having the best people.

    Advice to Management

Keep listening to employees, don't lose that human touch that is still possible in a company this size.

I have been working at BuroHappold full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Opportunities for growth and responsibility means a strong career path Well connected offices and teams Great projects and very talented engineers

    Cons

Mentoring could be improved- some people seem to get lost on their career path Very comfortable place to work- sometimes perhaps a little too comfortable

    Advice to Management

Keep at it- things are moving in the right direction and BuroHappold remains a far better prospect for employees than many of the competitors!

I have been working at BuroHappold full-time

    Pros

opportunity to innovate on some great projects

    Cons

lack of experience in some disciplines can be undervalued if not a rising star or "partner material" salary is below other direct competitors, no transparent bonus structure

I worked at BuroHappold full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

You'll work with some really amazing people who always look to work hard and play harder. Some great projects too if you get yourself in the right team.

    Cons

They played up to "our people are our biggest asset" in the good times but then hacked from the bottom of the pyramid when it came to the crunch during the 2008 crisis.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the generally great work you do but practise what you preach when the going gets tough.
