    Pros

    * The company pays up to or higher than market standards * Office located in downtown Toronto so many options to commute.

    Cons

    * Technology standards are going downhill (really downhill). The company chooses to go with cheap options and implements them before even testing. * The company is firing people massively in the name of reorganization and choosing cheaper non experienced staff. * High level of cost cutting for last 8-10 months in terms of office infrastructure but they continue to spend on incompetent vendors with evaluating them.... Some people must be getting rich for sure. Recently the general service desk team was shelved and now they are operating with half strength and the wait time to get even password reset is in hours. * No in house talent cultivation. They are on a layoff decision and hiring from outside. The ones joining now do not know that they will be fired soon too. * The gap between the general staff and Senior Management is so large that their directions do not meet. The senior management makes no attempt to gather what employees need for development of the company.

    Advice to Management

Stop pretending that there are no problems. The key to solve a problem is to admit there is one. Constant firing and hiring new people will not get you anywhere. Also listen to your own employees or at least pretend you care.

I have been working at CPP Investment Board full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - interesting work for the most part - better hours than banking - (slightly) better culture than banking - international opportunities - no face time - pretty sweet job if you're a senior

    Cons

    - really bad office politics. promotions and special assignments are not based on merit, you have to dedicate significant potion of your day to sucking up to seniors - no real training or mentorship. the seniors really dont care about you - working with global offices means that you get treated as an outsourcing facility - huge turnover at the analyst/associate level - below market pay

I have been working at CPP Investment Board full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    1. Compensation is decent for Toronto 2. Great benefits 3. Lots of smart people, good business partners

    Cons

    1. New IT management is toxic, letting go of good managers and directors while bringing their own clique of people and managers 2. New MD is forcing overnight on call and overtime monitoring for overnight jobs (think midnight - 5am) 2. Hard project deadlines causes inefficient designs and solutions

    Advice to Management

Treat your people like how you want to be treated, the NYC bank culture does not work in Toronto. If this continues, turnover in IT will skyrocket very soon

I have been working at CPP Investment Board full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Work with some of the best talent in the GTA area, including a lot of foreign nationals who relocated from top firms elsewhere. Very research focused, rigorous and striving to be ahead of the curve. Ability to spend significant time pursuing ideas that might not ultimately work but benefit the edification of all. A strong corporate culture. Plenty of sharing across functional areas. Ability to do secondments... in other areas to cross-train and widens one's knowledge. Many learning opportunities and meetings opened up to a wider groups.

    Cons

As with many corporate cultures, there are still problems with competing egos and personalities that led to cliquish politics at times. There didn't seem to be much follow through at the mid-senior level to squash this apparent breach of the corporate ethos particularly when it was breached by the mid-senior level.
