I worked at CSR (UK) full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

When I joined CSR in 2007 the company was flourishing, the Bluetooth market was expanding and CSR owned a significant chunk of the market share for peripheral devices. Since then there has been much change within the company and there's very little I can say that's good.

    Cons

The management structure is a mess... As a software engineer in the audio development team there is currently 6 lines of management before you get to the CEO. There is a culture of blame within the company where middle management blame engineers for failing projects and misssed deadlines. During the project development lifecycle, there is no useful project management, the entire situation is a complete and utter mess. As an engineer you are dictated to as opposed to consulted. You are simply considered a "company resource" and asked to swap between projects on a daily (and sometimes hourly) basis. It's a complete shambles. As an engineer, you work on CSR BlueCore hardware, which employs a XAP processor, which almost the complete opposite of industry standard. This trait follows right through the company, everything CSR uses is the opposite of industry standard. Working here for too long will effectively de-skill you as an engineer because everything is based around in-house software. The learning and development is non-existent, in 8 years I've been on three training courses provided by the company. The IS services is a joke, you have to wait months for your ancient laptop to be fixed, and even after being fixed it's still a fred flinstone of a machine.... The company policy states that a laptop (for a software engineer) is replaceable every 5 years!!!!! If you're lucky, they'll replace it after 3!

    Advice to Management

More respect towards the software development teams is required.

I have been working at CSR (UK) for more than a year

    Pros

Good bonuses. Leading the market in Bluetooth low energy. International (world wide) company. Management located in the United kingdom

    Cons

Well.... I don't like the chief executive officer of the company. He is not urnest with the employees. Also had long term planning

    Advice to Management

I don't have any advice to give the management. I can advice the stack holders to replace her.

I worked at CSR (UK) full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

CSR has some good technology, especially Bluetooth and the audio chips. It is probably a good company in UK?

    Cons

Constant changing and downsizing. When it bough Zoran, there were mover than 3000 people, now 2000. Every year, there is downsize. Layoff immediately after buying Zoran, shut down DVT and Microtune than Zoran acquired in 2012, shut down Camera (COACH) in 2013 (used to be No.1 camera SoC maker), both happened before Thanksgiving or Christmas. Then sell the whole company in 2014, another round of layoff is inevitable after the acquisition finishes 2014 Summer.

    Advice to Management

No advice since CSR board will resign after Qualcomm takes over.

I have been working at CSR (UK)

    Pros

There is lots of work to do and many technologies (gps, Bluetooth, wifi, etc).

    Cons

The company lacks focus. There are too many projects being worked by the same employees. The business units do not coordinate work.

    Advice to Management

Focus on a fewer products. Stand up to bullying from customers.

    I worked at CSR (UK)

    Pros

CSR is a leader in a number of target semiconductor markets, including BlueTooth, GPS, Digital Cameras and Printers. Good company atmosphere.

    Cons

CSR has been through a major downsizing following acquisition of Zoran, and subsequent decision to exit from a number of target markets, including TV and STB SOCs. CSR still needs to prove the success of this strategy and that it can grow further.

    Advice to Management

CSR has a strong position in a number of markets, though it will be important to obtain/maintain a controlling influence on the platforms; otherwise the risk is that CSR's markets will commoditise and margins will drop (or worse still, functions will increasingly be absorbed by other companies who are controlling the platforms).

    Pros

CSR is middle size company which leads in Bluetooth and low energy connectivity. Now it will have also a camera on chip ("Coach") products.

    Cons

The company may not grow/ succeed if consumers won't prefer to buy its technologies.
