    Recommends

I worked at Cabinet Office UK

    Pros

    - Really good induction process, everyone knew we were arriving and had tasks/introductory meetings organised from day 1 - Excellent line manager who was very busy but still managed to have time to give us direction and feedback - Relaxed environment - people were really friendly, after work drinks were common, working from home on Friday was pretty much a department norm, more casual dress code on Fridays

    Cons

    - Sometimes work was slow as it was during summer and most ministers/high level meetings wind down - Classic civil service in terms of paperwork, bureaucracy, waiting for security clearance etc. - Most senior managers are usually too busy to meet with interns!

  2. "Varied work but task orientated with little structure for personal development"

I worked at Cabinet Office UK full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Good opportunity to partake in workshops and talks with Senior Management. Lots of employee engagement workshops and initiatives.

    Cons

Advice given by staff is very rarely acted upon. While there is loads of opportunities to engage and participate in business improvement workshops and staff surveys Senior Management either can't be bothered to follow it up or think it is staff having a go at them. There is a lot of talk about change and reform but when Ministers and Senior Civil Servants realise that they might have to change their ways of working and approach they fall short of doing so. Shame really as there is some great innovation and ideas put forward by staff.
