I worked at Cambian Group full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Met some lifelong friends, actually made a slight difference to the YP I supported.

    Cons

Overworked, unappreciated, unachievable expectations, unsupported. You are expected to be everything for the children you look after (Parent, therapist, everything) all with minimal in house training and minimal therapeutic support from a qualified in house mental health professional. You are not supported through challenging times with children and when you have a serious incident and are assaulted you are expected to carry on your shift like normal. Budgets are cut at every opportunity to the detriment of people's emotional well being. Homes go months without necessary repairs due to the common phrase of "no money until April" , just to ensure shareholders get promised returns. Team morale is often low and staff turnover is ridiculous. Expectations are placed that if you are on shift and no one is available to relieve you then you have to carry on being on shift until someone does. Progression only works if your face fits, little bubbles form amongst staff members. I gave 5 years to supporting the young people i did and i did not feel valued as a team member from management at all and experience led to a great deal of stress, anxiety and massively knocked my professional confidence which is still being impacted 18 months after leaving. Pay is poor for expectations but opportunity is there to earn if you want to run yourself into the ground. That's even if they pay you right.

I have been working at Cambian Group full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    Very rewarding looking after children.

    Cons

    1) Cambia is a profit run organisation 2) They dout care for the staff or wellbeing and the management will not take blame for any incidents and will try to blame staff. 3) They is little recognition for hard work and loyalty . 4) They will let any one become a team leader ,even if they dout have any kind of leadership skills in leading a team. 5) poor pay ,long hrs 6) The directors of the company ,dout know what is going on in they homes ,or care ,as long as the money is coming in. 7) Wrong mixture of young people, so causing issues in the home . 8) Alot of young people being failed ,because the company wants to maximize profit over care eg not enough solo homes so we can care for these individuals instead of making profit of they misery.

I have been working at Cambian Group full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The only reason I keep going is because I am passionate about my work .I am in somewhat hope that the wages will reflect our work and maybe cambian could keep there staff .

    Cons

Being abused on a daily basis isn't much fun when you're trying to help young people. The hours that are expected of you when other staff ring in sick due to being tired or injured from previous shifts is not acceptable to no human .

    Pros

all the staff are in the same boat

    Cons

very poor pay that does not reflect the work that you do gruelling long hours-who wants to keep working 14 hour shifts that often extend into 18 hour shifts because the children do not go to sleep but spend all night causing chaos staff are not safeguarded appropriately from violence and abuse aimed at them from the young people

It's really important that we hear when we need to improve in certain areas so thank you for sharing your review. I agree that we need to do better with recognising our people. Some locations do it fantastically well, but as a company we need to do more to make our people feel valued and appreciated at work. The good news is that are seeking to address it and our reviewing our reward and recognition package across the business to ensure that it appeals to more staff. We are also in the process of implementing a pay award for front line staff which is structured such that those lower paid staff receive the greatest uplifts. We will also be embarking on a culture change programme which we will be involving our people in to help shape and influence our future. As part of this we will be exploring how we can make people at work feel appreciated and happy in the work they do. Thank you again for sharing your feedback. Pros

You get paid not always right , then you have to wait a month to be paid properly. You only work 10 shifts a month

    Cons

No training no support, lack of leadership kids refuse school medicals etc. Rewarded with a maccies or money thrown at them. Staff assaulted daily. Placing authorities being ripped off with high fees for young people. Schools provide sub standard education. If you can breathe and drive the job is yours. High turn over of staff. Cliques between management and staff. They would rather promote in house as it’s cheaper than a professional coming in to do the job. People being stabbed In the back. Things hidden from the press and placing authorities itv documentary only scratched the surface. Kids safer in top curry. So much more to mention More worried about stocks and shares. They promote clinical and yet they have 2 people to cover the company which takes 6 weeks to be referred and then all that happens clinical send staff the work to do with the kids. It’s like paying a garage to service your car then they send you the parts to do it yourself. Cut backs on HR, clinical, maintenance, regional managers. Haha I hope all placing authorities pull the kids then this company would close down. Yes I’d be unemployed but at least these won’t bleed local and placing authorities dry. Basically they promise the world to help these kids and don’t deliver

Thank you for taking the time to share your views of working at Cambian. In order for us to properly address your points I would really value a meeting or call with you to help understand the context to some of your comments. Whilst I do recognise we are a long way from being 'perfect', the are a number of things you have raised that are not accurate. For instance, internal promotion is of course our preference - not because it's cheaper, but because it encourages employee development, succession and retention. If we simply appointed external applicants where would that leave all of our current people who want to develop into new roles? Would that not have a greater impact on our workforce and lead to worse retention? Additionally, yes we are a PLC and therefore we need to ensure we return a profit to investors but we also invest heavily in our people, their development and of course, importantly, the young people we care for. Cambian has one of the lowest margins in the business and we pride ourselves in investing back into the company. There are other points that you raise that I would like to pick up with you to understand more about the background and therefore would welcome a chat with you. Perhaps you could contact me at Michael.Fletcher@cambiangroup.com in the first instance and we can arrange a catch up from there? Best, Michael Fletcher Deputy Director of People
