I have been working at Capita Property and Infrastructure full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

They're desperate for good people, so you can get a decent salary if they need your skills.

    Cons

They're desperate for good people, because anyone worth their salt has left.
The place is falling apart around their ears. The IT is absolutely ridiculous. Basic things don't function and new systems are introduced regularly, which is intended to help, but only hinders, since there's no consistency in training.
I was not onboarded or trained in any way, even though this was promised. My first week was spent on the phone with IT trying to get my desk phone and access to my work server sorted out.
Culture of condescension and "old-boys' club" mentality. Women are hired as PAs and Assistants. Very few females in actual decision making positions.
I've been talked down to and patronised, by senior staff and my juniors alike. It's utterly demoralising to be made to feel stupid and assured that those around you think themselves smarter than you, even though you are a very successful, confident and highly educated person yourself.
Duplication of effort is ridiculous as the systems are all broken. So Excel is the client database management system of choice. Absolutely ridiculous.
The least professional place I've ever worked, where a manager will discuss team members' absences and performance in front of other team members (staff included).
The only people who work here are ones who have nowhere better to go.

    Advice to Management

Your company is fundamentally broken. I'm not sure the problems are fixable, other than by divine intervention.

I have been working at Capita Property and Infrastructure full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    * Flexible working hours and the option to work remotely when possible.
    * Wide range of projects to work on.
    * Highly skilled professionals to bounce ideas off of, and to learn from.
    * Well developed training programme for graduates and professionals at early stages of their career.

    Cons

    * Ability to retain talent. Recruitment is given a higher priority over staff retention and progression, leading to high turnover.
    * Focus on short term profitability that affects employee's potential, and hinders progression. Also, it is quiet common for staff to be made redundant as soon as work runs dry, only for the upper management to go on a recruitment spree for similar positions a couple of months later.
    * Constant restructuring of teams to 'increase' efficiency.
    * Increasingly bureaucratic systems and processes that affects employees ability to carry out their day to day jobs.
    * Hard work often goes unrewarded. Promotion is seldom based on merit. Instead of promoting sufficiently trained and competent staff, senior positions within the company are often filled by personnel parachuted in from outside of the company.
    * Below industry average salary and benefits .

    Advice to Management

While short term profitability is important for a company like Capita, focus should also be paid to the sustainability of the teams and ultimately the business. Alienating and overlooking current staff (that leads to a high turnover) affects Capita's ability to successfully win bids and to deliver agreed scope.

    Pros

Due to it's size the company was ran very much in silos, which if your area has a good team and manager can work well

    Cons

Due to the set up each part of the business tends to compete against each other which inhibits the whole company and impacts relationships

Everything is very 'month - to - month' - your business unit can have months/years of positive results but top level management look to assign blame after one bad month regardless of context

    Advice to Management

Need to be more long-term and set realistic targets for business units rather than over promising then panicking when these targets are missed
