  1. "Great company, but can become a bit suffocating. And a young company."

    I worked at Capital One

    Pros

A lot of oppotunities and a young feeling company. I got to work in France, USA and Madrid in my role. Some peopel there are very good and there is a collective energy in the office which makes working there a pleasure. There is a lot of fun in the office with a fun budget where every quarter you get a day out paid for by the company (bowling / meal / day out doing something etc)

    Cons

Obsessed by soft skills, sometimes forgetting about the core work itelsf. Also some management were promoted, put in management of people positions who were very poor people skills.

    Advice to Management

Need to be less focused on peoples soft skills - giving feedback etc and more focused on the actual job

    No Opinion of CEO

I worked at Capital One full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Lovely offices, good benefits, (esp pension), gym, technology

    Cons

Horrible performance management (and some managers) Cliques (a lot have since gone though) No parking Long termers immune to performance management process (how some survived year after year was a mystery)

    Advice to Management

For a forward looking company, they had a draconian performance process and it was far too cliquey.

I worked at Capital One full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

great salary, awesome benefits, great company culture

    Cons

They have been branding themselves a tech company but their internal systems are horrible Also tends to be a good old boys club when it comes to promotions. Employee evaluation process is horrific. Job Security, towards the end it felt like you always had to keep your running sneakers around your neck......

    Advice to Management

Rate your employee's based on their individual performance not how they rank to others simIlar to them . Stop calling yourself a tech company till you have the tech to support that claim

I worked at Capital One full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Great engineering team. Engineering leadership is solid, has a good attitude, and SDE talent that punches above their weight - Capital One has good senior executive leadership and as a whole they genuinely try to be a good actor in society - Work life balance is great because most people lost hope on delivering meaningful work. Many people leave as early as 3pm or work from home with little or no notice

    Cons

    - The Seattle team is not like the rest of the company. A lot of what you read on glassdoor does not apply to this team even some benefits - Seattle job responsibilities for roles are different which makes working with the enterprise inefficient - Seattle team is organized in a by silos that prevent work from getting done effectively - Project/program management team does not follow industry best practices - Large...

    Advice to Management

Your onsite management is lying to you about how and what they are working on. The team is incredibly mismanaged, which is why they keep missing deadlines. During one of my first meetings with McLean my manager muted the phone and people proceeded to make personal comments about a leader on the other side of the phone and though this didn't happen frequently the animosity . Having a enterprise leader that frequently...
