Pros

Pays well – but not worth it Learning experience – but not transferable

Cons

The things that you learn aren’t really applicable to any other employment opportunities so it isn’t really worth the long hours required. The turnover for the Accounting department is extremely high

Pros

Stunning view and immaculate office space Free soft drinks

Cons

I typically do not post reviews on the internet, but the behavior I saw from Cathexis Management and the subsequent replies from management on this site prompted me to act. I will endeavor to avoid hyperbole and site specific examples to assertions made in this review. Cathexis is a difficult place to work as a female. Early in my tenure at Cathexis, the CEO paraded a female administrative assistant around the office in a Burka that he forced her to wear. He seemed to think it was funny, but I know multiple females who did not. I also know that he required female assistants to order underwear for him online along with other things I will not mention in this post. He would also have them over to his house to pack his suitcase and clean his house and do odd jobs like changing light bulbs. I do not want to repeat the words used in this post, but he was prone to using racial slurs and making statements that were sexist in nature. While at Cathexis, I worked in the E&P group which was challenging to say the least. The CEO would ignore his experienced geologists and engineers and kill promising prospects while pursuing others that they advised against. As the owner of the company, that was well within his right. The frustrating part of this was enduring his tantrums and being held accountable for his decisions. He was young and extremely immature and inexperienced, I pray for the current employees that he has outgrown this. Having never had a job or any concern over money (he inherited all of his wealth) which may be why he showed zero empathy when ordered mass layoffs. Limited severance packages put a number of employees into tough financial positions. These decisions were made fresh off of him buying a new jet, a toy helicopter and a bunch of property on the bayou. The layoff had nothing to do with liquidity, it was a game to him. Employees are disposable pawns, not people. The CEO always promised a phantom equity program that never fully materialized. Once a partial version of it was implemented, the rules of the game kept changing and I would be shocked if anyone ever received payment from that plan. If they did, I am sure it was at a greatly reduced payout. Nobody builds wealth at Cathexis, except the owner. Final concern, SAFETY – The CEO would bring an assault rifle to the office and allow employees to carry firearms in the office. There was a member of senior management who carried two firearms to the office on a regular basis. The CEO was aware of this and did nothing to stop it.

Cathexis Response
7y
Cathexis is very surprised by the false information posted in the recent posting concerning working conditions at the company. Cathexis strives to and does maintain a diverse workforce where employees and management are respectful of one another and work together in a cooperative and supportive environment. Cathexis is an equal employment opportunity company and does not discriminate against its employees on the basis of gender, race or any other protected class. As a private family office located in Texas, Cathexis adheres to Texas law concerning an employee’s right to carry a weapon, however, not at the expense of the security of all employees. Like any other company, Cathexis has had to reduce its workforce at certain times in its history as a result of business necessity but in those times, Cathexis has strived to ensure that those employees who were impacted were treated fairly and in accordance with the law. Cathexis invites you to see for yourself the type of company we are and the benefits that comes from working for a company such as ours.

Pros

The learning experience is incredible.

Cons

Things are great, until they are not. The turnover was shocking no matter what the CEO has posted. Voicing a disagreeing fact/opinion is insubordination, even when right. Micromanagement is rampant.
