I have been working at Cell Signaling Technology full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    Great work-life balance great location

    Cons

The company seems to have lost it's way. They are struggling to meet goals, and none of management is on the same page. HR has more than doubled and no one knows what they do. There is no interdepartment collaboration, development hates production, production hates development, and those in operations get treated the worst. Marketing/Sales and Production are the only groups rewarded. The company is starting to move away from their standard of quality in favor of quantity... They pay FAR BELOW for the work done, and they keep reducing your take home pay, while telling you you make up for it in other areas. They prefer to hire fresh out of school talent so they can continue to pay less. There is literally 0 room for growth. Any promotions are given to managers favorites, no rhyme or reason for promotions. They refuse to give job descriptions so that they can always throw something out of the loop in your work flow.

I have been working at Cell Signaling Technology full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great mission, leader in the industry, awesome co-workers, excellent benefits and challenging work. Very values driven company and that resonates with me. I feel good about coming to work every day.

    Cons

Going through some growing pains. Company made and is making significant investments in supporting organizations, such as IT, HR, Legal, Sales & Marketing, etc. to ensure that we can continue to scale globally. The science is rock solid, and now we need to get other functional areas there as well. Lots to do and definitely areas for improvement, but I applaud the leadership team for recognizing the skills gaps and addressing them. Change is hard, but the mission/values are strong and we are making progress.

I have been working at Cell Signaling Technology full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The vision, mission and values are solid The impact of our products on the world Lots of opportunity to do great work and make an impact Excellent Benefits and 401(k) match Good time off and work/life balance for most Good compensation and bonus program Great contributor to the local community & strong corporate social responsibility efforts Very caring employees Convenient and beautiful north shore locations Overall, you really feel like you a part of something that does amazing things

    Cons

It is more difficult to get regular day to day things done than it should be as processes are either not there or inconsistently applied. Also, while the company is extremely science focused (awesome) there is limited understanding of how the business operates across the company and a feeling of low perceived value to those in non-scientific roles. Hopefully, the newer leaders with commercial experience from other companies will help evolve the company in these areas.

    Cell Signaling Technology Response

    SVP Global HR

Thanks for taking the time to provide feedback on our company. We have worked hard to create an environment where our employees and the planet come before profit. With growth comes change which at times has caused inefficiencies and we are trying to find ways to improve what and how we do things. We appreciate your kind words above and encourage all employees to provide feedback.

I worked at Cell Signaling Technology full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Good benefits, nice and inclusive culture.

    Cons

Pay is substandard for the geographic area. Non-scientific employees are seen as clogs by upper management and not seen as valuable. Culture is very academic centric, lots of emphasis on publishing . Upper management prefers younger employees so unless you get into a management position you're unlikely to build a career at CST.

    Pros

Average Pay, good location but that is it.

    Cons

A very clicky company in certain groups, RA's who are not qualified are given more privileges and power over their own supervisors simply because they are close friends with someone in upper management. This sets the stage for bullying and a hostile work environment. Instead of focusing on team work the focus is getting ahead by trying to discredit and bully others. Many good employees lost and quit because of this. The work in Production is not what I would consider science, and if your goal is to aliquot reagents and fill orders as a senior scientist while the RA's attend meetings, take the most important technical roles simply because they have been "friends" with someone senior for a long time. These same people are very negative and use the internal chat to insult and gossip during the meetings they attend. Unqualified upper management, and misuse of their power.

I have been working at Cell Signaling Technology full-time

    Pros

Excellent work/life balance Excellent benefits (401k match, PTO, health and dental are low cost to employee) Great culture Management encourages volunteering in the community and provides a paid volunteer day Fantastic location outside of the city. Commute is easy! Opportunities for career growth

    Cons

We are currently going through some "growing pains" which is expected as we move from being a small to medium sized company. I appreciate that HR and management have been working hard to assist with these employee concerns.

    Pros

Hmmm one positive thing is the social/environmental responsibility. Oh and company parties, social hours, and cake every month to celebrate birthdays. Thats it!

    Cons

Management is clueless, no training, clicky groups and many that feel entitled. Pay is substandard, benefits are on par/below other companies. favoritism that enables those who shouldn't progress to get promoted above those that deserve it.

    Pros

Friendly colleagues feels like family Benefits Beautiful atrium Mission is admirable and motivating Volunteer days HR listens to the employees

    Cons

Space - We are running out of places to sit. We keep hiring people and have no place to put them. Employees need to drive between buildings for meetings and there's no place to put their belongings. This is not sustainable yet there seems to be no plan to address the situation. Conference rooms are nearly impossible to secure. It's always a barter and trade transaction. Wastes too much time. Maybe with a different seating configuration people could work more collaboratively requiring less formal meetings. Headcount - Many people are in positions where there is no one to back them up making it difficult to take vacations. Workloads are high requiring people to work after hours, weekends, and over vacations just to catch up.

I worked at Cell Signaling Technology full-time

    Pros

Good commute out of the city, atrium/cafeteria is beautiful with exotic plants, pay and benefits are reasonable. There are some very nice people here, particularly in HR and the cell culture group.

    Cons

Very, very disorganized company. Understaffed critical roles, severe lack of manager training (i.e. there is NO training!), sub-par bench skills of RAs (some don't even understand that you need to change pipette tips when working with different samples). No consequences for unprofessional behavior and management would rather look the other way and avoid conflict rather than step up and do their job. There was clear evidence of coworker sabotaging others' work and when brought to management, the advice was to "not give up!" and just deal with the person's behavior. Sketchy biohazard waste practices. Employees are instructed to bleach cell culture plates, then throw them in mainstream recycling. This practice depends too much on people doing the right thing and poses a risk to the environment. It seems like upper management is more concerned with saving money under the guise of "environmental responsibility" than paying for proper biowaste disposal.
