I worked at Centrica full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Decent enough pay for a graduate scheme
    - Good working culture with flexi-time and working from home as options
    - IF you want a graduate scheme where the learning onus is on you, in the sense there is very little central development but they say you can find your own courses and apply for funding (although, some of these got rejected for funding anyway), then the analyst graduate scheme might be for you

    Cons

    - Zero centralised development for Analysts. There is a lot for other streams (e.g. finance do their exams and have them paid for), Analysts truly get no technical training what so ever. I joined expecting some form of structured Excel, VBA, or other training in whatever software and language is used throughout the business. However, it is us that run the excel training (they get fresh analyst grads who need training to train other fresh grads) and this is only one or two sessions. Having raised this, and I know previous grads had as well, we were told that we had to seek our own courses and apply for funding. This hands off style might suit some - but for me a graduate scheme gives you training and a skill set within a structured programme, such as all analysts having at least some basic R, Python etc courses, rather than providing us the option to have to find our own and do it out of working hours. On top of this, there were cases of people applying for courses as we were told to, and the funding was not approved anyway. There is not much difference, in this sense, between this grad scheme and an entry level Analyst job elsewhere.

    - Grad team fairly unresponsive to requests for training or issues being raised

    Advice to Management

Give need training, so provide a programme of training over simply saying go find your own.

    Pros

    - Good option if you don't really care about your work

    Cons

    - Poor working culture from top to bottom
    - Reward is based on who you know and how you appear - doesn't promote meritocracy. The share price is an evidence of the poor management culture

    Advice to Management

    - Promote meritocracy
    - Create a diverse culture

I have been working at Centrica full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Good colleagues and friendly atmosphere

    Cons

Too much bureaucracy, stagnant work culture as it is not a defined career path by the company. Getting promotions or moving across the job positions has a good quote of lobby which is not very fair. Some people in the management are ego driven.

    Advice to Management

Appreciate your human resources and you would not need to worry about performance.
