Pros

Great facilities. New building built in 2012. Great location next to shopping areas.

Cons

At Anthony Aguirre Junior High. Terribly large class sizes for a single teacher to manage. 30 or more for core classes and 50-70 for elective classes. Difficult work life balance; we were required multiple times to stay behind on weekends and after school to work various school activities. Administration is not supportive of certain teachers based on favoritism. Reverse-discrimination is a problem; if you are not African American or Latino, you may encounter a hostile work environment. The very high turnover rate at the school means that it is difficult forming lasting relationships with colleagues. Lastly, there are communication problems within the administration, leading to a confusing and sometimes hostile work environment.

Pros

The pay is comparable to other districts in the area and it was easy to get hired.

Cons

I work at an elementary school that is plagued with favoritism. Management hires their friends and blantently lets those people in the inner circle get away with things a normal employee couldn’t. Also there is a lot of micromanagement going on. For example they highlight people who didn’t sign in at exactly 7:45. Seriously insane! In addition, they do not help new teachers enough. They expect you to just figure it out your own. I had a mentor that only had a couple years of experience and she was so lazy and not interested in mentoring me. Every time I spoke to management about it, they did nothing.

Beware of the "Good Old Boys Club"

Pros

High salary, decent benefits package, good work-life balance.

Cons

The majority of educators are NOT ESL certified, yet bilingual students make up close to 70% of the district's demographic. The school board is made up of people who do not have these student's best interests at heart, and thus the performance each year for standardized testing is low. Professional development opportunities are sub par.
