      Pros

      Very people focussed. Great benefits package (pension, private health care). American culture - early starts and "do as you're told, don't ask questions mentality".

      Cons

      Too nice at times - no consequences for people who don't deliver or behave badly, so you can wonder at times why do I bother? Senior managers become too friendly with direct reports leading to favouritism. You can get on if you buy your boss a bottle of wine for his birthday. Part time work discouraged even for mothers returning from maternity leave.

      Pros

      The only pro now is great work/life balance. We did have great benefits but that changed in 2015.

      Cons

      Very low pay for the job. An average DSM makes roughly 120k-150k. Other companies are 200k+. The benefits are now horrible to keep up dividends for shareholders. Old timers said the company was lower paying but had job security compared to other O&G jobs, not anymore. Layoffs every 3-4 years for field staff. The field will have promotion freezes and layoffs but all the office staff sits safely in their positions or even promotions amid field layoffs. Finally they are so woke for diversity and inclusion that they discriminate against white males. The company went from one of the best to work for to one of the worst. Chevron is a typical woke, liberal, California company.

      -Great benefits, awesome matching program and they have a pension -Good work life balance, 9/80s where you get every other friday off -Currently you can work remotely and there is an understanding of the pandemic and the severity of it -Culture emphasis diversity and inclusion, volunteer and Employee network involvement -You can easily move to different job roles every 2 - 3 years

      Cons

      -Constant reorganizations/lay offs. Went through 3 rounds of layoffs within 7 years -certain organizations / teams have varying culture - where some may have more conservative/old school mentality -a lot of IT management are extremely high level and cannot necessarily communicate restructuring value or new IT culture -a lot of dead weight (prior 2020 layoffs), leading to the bogging down of moving projects forward -Networking is extremely important, and it's more about "who you know" and less of the value of work you bring (this is true in any company you work for)
