I worked at Cigna (Less than a year)

    Pros

Salary good, enjoyed my time there. Room for promotion, good people working with. Very big office, good networking

    Cons

Some of the managers can be a bit aggressive at times very strict, having to be at your desk and ready for 9 pm start, get a bit annoyed if on the telephone for too long speaking to customers

    Advice to Management

    None

I have been working at Cigna full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Fantastic Introductory Sales Account Manager Position. Great Sales Support, Knowledge and fantastic atmosphere

    Cons

Definitely has a glass ceiling on progression and management. Salaries and income also capped at a certain level.

    Advice to Management

Please don't keep having the same conversations all the time with experienced staff, Try to help develop people individually and make errors and mistakes when learning less personal.

I have been working at Cigna full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They do look after their employees, with good private health insurance and pension plan.

    Cons

Salaries are a joke, way too low. You have to keep making friends and trying to please bosses to try for a promotion, no matter if you're competent for the job or not

    Advice to Management

Try and consider candidates fairly for promotions and let people effectively get ahead in their careers.

I worked at Cigna full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Friendly staff and great, supportive management. Very good training offered for different aspects of role. Strong health insurance benefits as well as dental insurance benefits.

    Cons

Call centre work always highly stressful and feeling of being "under constant surveillance". Callers frequently angry and agitated. Not enough staff to properly cover workload. Mandatory overtime sometimes expected - "guilted" into performing it.

    Advice to Management

Management at my particular branch was very strong - fought for needs of workers, trying to get more staff to properly cover workload. Try to advise your higher ups that a high stress/low pay job leads to high turnover (several left during my tenure, including myself).

I worked at Cigna full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits such as healthcare/ dental, social events organised regularly and incentivised overtime, flexible shifts to suit work/ life balance.

    Cons

Inexperienced management team lead to procedural mistakes within corporate business, long hours required to achieve decent salary as basic is paid at less than market rate, which is openly discussed.

    Advice to Management

Within corporate business proper training and support is required for all members of staff to ensure the business is ran efficiently.

I worked at Cigna full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - If your new to the IT industry in Glasgow, this place is a great introduction to nepotism and clique oriented cultures if your interested in looking at it from the point of view of a psychiatrist.

    - If you know the right people, you will land in a nice cushy job and can get away with just about anything. There is no wrong you can do in management's eyes.

    - Telesales team where good people to work with and seemed to appreciate the support given by the IT team.

    Cons

    - Very clique oriented.
Staff are run into the ground to the point where they are angered into
leaving. The staff still there have been working there for several years.
Manager even admitted that staff turnover was a good thing. A lot of this degenerates
into managerial bullying and just completely destroys morale.

    - Preference given to contractors rather than permanent staff
(at least from the team I worked in)

    - Managers refuse to learn from their mistakes and simply rinse and repeat.

    - No opportunities for growth. It's the manager's way or the highway.

    Advice to Management

Quite honestly, I wouldn't know where to begin. I am not the first person who has raised issues to management in the past and I certainly won't be the last. Obviously they see a benefit to how things are handled in Cigna, given how long they have worked there. The sad thing (from an IT development point of view), is they will never encourage good quality software developers and always end up with mediocre employees. Not everyone can be great, but if Cigna had less nepotism and instead promoted training and encouraged growth, they might actually contribute to Glasgow's IT industry.

I worked at Cigna full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Friendly loyal colleagues who do their best in trying circumstances

    Cons

An acceptance of bullying amongst middle management leading to a high turnover of staff. Very little career development or training. Poor compensation and little chance of meaningful review. Shockingly overcrowded and noisy work environment.

    Advice to Management

Rip out and redesign entire middle management structure in IT. Move to new premises. Build a genuine meritocracy and end the nepotism.
