I have been working at Cisco Systems full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

For a 70,000 person, global company, there are so many things to be PROUD of in working for Cisco. As an LGBT leader at Cisco, I am happy to be myself, and encourage others to do the same. There is tremendous executive support for our LGBT brothers and sisters at Cisco, across the globe. Cisco's continued 'foot on the gas pedal' delivering on Inclusion & Diversity aren't just words, rather, actions that continue... to grow. #CiscoPRIDE is alive and well.

    Cons

The only 'Con' I can muster up is the opportunity to find new opportunities within Cisco for many people. Cisco is not a high growth company, so not adding 100s of jobs/week, like some others. That said, there is tremendous opportunity for cross teaming, working on stretch assignments, and raising your hand to do 'other' things.

    Advice to Management

There continues to be much talk about Job Rotations...but truth is it is very hard to find, and do. I encourage you to move this up the ladder of 'making it happen' in the next 15-18 months.

I have been working at Cisco Systems

    Pros

Cisco is strong on Autonomy, employees have the room to innovate Employees are self starters and ambitious. A true performance environment.

    Cons

Cisco is going through a significant transition as it tries to wean itself off the box shifting business model it currently has. The environment has become very uncertain, as Cisco goes through a series of annual layoffs

    Advice to Management

Your strength still lies with your employees. Investment should remain in this area, and tools and applications aren't going to solve for traditional employee engagement

I worked at Cisco Systems full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Work flexibility is good...but beware being isolated if working from home too much Overall package and fringe benefits

    Cons

Can be very hit or miss on the quality of manager and lack of consistent performance management system (no ratings shared) means you are at mercy of line manager's whims when they don;t actively take any interest in your performance or development. All employees are essentially stacked ranked when it comes to the annual cull. (ironically the annual performance appraisal system seems to be replaced by annual... redundancy system...)

    Advice to Management

Ensure all line managers are properly trained and use the employee management systems - it's no use spouting on about new people deal if managers can't be bothered....

I worked at Cisco Systems full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

international, good brand, this, that, the other, but hey, not all that good. So we just have to keep trying.

    Cons

bureaucracy, politics, not so fast, fat cats, too many layers of management. Resting on laurels.

    Advice to Management

Change all management upper level, bring younger people in. Fat cats, resting on laurels, no more innovation. Good bye Cisco
