I have been working at Citi full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Been an employee at Citi for 17 years. They are a great company to work for. The investment in remote access has made remote working easy for employees. The work life balance is fantastic. Yes the hours can be long be but there is flexibility from managers.

    Cons

Pay is not the best compared to competitors. In fact when I did a comparison on Glassdoor against 16 other financial institutions within in London Citi has the lowest average base salary and bonus for a VP which is my grade. Also the prospects of promotion in high cost locations such as London to SVP and higher is almost non-existent. The odd few that do get through are at times somewhat suspect. It appears at times you have to know the right people to move up.

I worked at Citi full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Generally decent starting salaries. Much-needed diversity initiatives are active.

    Cons

Intensely bureaucratic, nearly impossible to get anything done. Assurances made by management mean very little, and can and do change. Improvement tasks and projects are generally tick-box exercises to use as proof for bonuses, rather than any real intention to improve process. Toxic work environment - cliques and gossip are the norm. Compensation process pits teammates against one another on a local, regional, and global level. Despite active and vocal diversity initiatives, open sexism acknowledged and accepted by management. Suicide 'jokes' a firm part of the department 'banter'. Concerns about consistently excessive stress levels dismissed as 'normal' for tech/production support. Extremely high turnover. This puts undue pressure on the people who choose to stay - teams are understaffed and stretched to breaking point in many instances. Despite vocal mental health initiatives, your wellbeing is not considered a priority. No work-life balance. Leaving on-time is frowned upon, and you won't be thanked for working late.

    Pros

Good work life balance. Quality senior management that allows learning and mobility. The company has values and they live and breathe them.

    Cons

Not many. Maybe too large and too many silos. Some fiefdoms that new leadership will no doubt break.
