I worked at City of Wichita Falls part-time

    Pros

Flexibility, room to grow, help with school, great benefits.

    Cons

Mostly male management, you have to deal with angry citizens.

I have been working at City of Wichita Falls full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great family/work balance, fantastic benefits including an employee health clinic, fitness center and tuition reimbursement.

    Cons

Salary is mediocre and on a set step by step basis, and budget driven rather than performance, but that's normal for municipal government.

    Advice to Management

    Keep doing what you're doing!

I worked at City of Wichita Falls full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good people (co-workers), good intentions, and average pay.

    Cons

Leadership isn't progressive, not allot of new ideas get momentum, especially if their not leadership's ideas.

    Advice to Management

S--t or get off the pot! Pick 1... 1 innovative idea and run with it! One Downtown initiative (not the Farmers Market or the Pie-in-the-sky dream of a convention center hotel) and sell-out!

    Positive Outlook

    Pros

Great family/work balance, paid holidays, paid vacation and sick leave.

    Cons

No incentive for the harder workers who show lots of initiative, which seems to breed mediocrity. Money isn't always appropriated where it should be.

    Advice to Management

Develop an employee incentive program that rewards hard work and initiative.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at City of Wichita Falls full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The cost of living is very reasonable. There is very little traffic to deal with.

    Cons

The city is not actively seeking growth opportunities. Upper management is not open to progressive or new ideas. The corporate culture is to stay with the status quo. Very little opportunity for advancement. Few incentives. The poor performers receive the same compensation as high performers.

    Advice to Management

Use incentives to reward high performing employees. Use a forward thinking approach to encourage growth of the City.

    Pros

STABILITY, although the pay is not anywhere near larger cities or the private sector, employment with WF is usually one in which you can count on a position for many years. The importance of this is very obvious in the tough economic times we are going through.

    Cons

The average salary of a city employee here is much less than comparable cities in Texas but the cost of living is a little less and the quality of life , schools etc., is good

    Advice to Management

Listen more to the input given by longterm employees that have a vested interest in the quality of their department, the new supervisor or deprtment head is often (mabye even subconsciously) wanting to make themseleves look good to the detriment of the department

    Pros

Fairly good pay after you've been there a while.

    Cons

The city leadership doesn't seem to know how to spend its money. For example, the Library had its budget cut and let some people go, but, then the city leaders go and buy a golf course and a water park. One of the departments I worked, they could never decide what their data entry policy was, it changed every week.

    Advice to Management

How about getting some competent politicians in office?
