I have been working at Co-op full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Good selection of products Staff discount Flexible working hours that fit around my family life

    Cons

Don’t get full breaks if any at all Asked to work through breaks while managers take several breaks You can’t sell any age restricted items including energy drinks till 6 weeks in. Have to call other staff to authorise age restricted products which is a pain when there’s a massive que. had to work out how to do a lot of things on our own not a lot of training given. Thankyou for your review. I'm sorry to hear that you are not getting your breaks, this should not be happening at your store so I ask that you raise this with your manager and HR so this can be rectified. Regarding training, this should be happening often among your team, if you feel ...

I worked at Co-op part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Can sometimes have a great team and few rare excellent managers do exist

    Cons

Unsociable hours, rota'd shifts so very hard to plan your life outside of work. Some managers are awful and make you hate your job

    Advice to Management

Change to set shift and a lot less people will leave, also hire managers that are good with people not those who couldn't care less about the happiness of their staff

I have been working at Co-op part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Worked with some great people over the years. Management fair when changing shifts/booking holidays etc Management approachable Good atmosphere/lots of regular customers

    Cons

Discount could be better for convenience store price band Area manager arrogant, doesn't even acknowledge staff, only management. The amount of waste thrown away each night is disgraceful.

    Advice to Management

Seriously sort out the waste issue, it is horrifying!!!!. I am so close to taking a photograph of the bags of waste and sending it to the newspapers. For such an 'ethical' company it is sickening. It can be given to food banks/homeless etc

    Advice to Management

ALL Staff should be spoken to regularly by the area manager without their store manager being present and asked to give honest feedback about their store, about their managers and asked wether they are having any problems that need to be addressed. I personally had many problems and I unfortunately found I didn't have anyone to contact and speak to so it all just went unresolved and I had to quit. Personally I think...

    Cons

Low contract hours for staffers. 39 hours for Managers, mainly slightly better paid shelf fillers Holidays are paid on contract hours, savings for COOP, not hiring on full time contracts, but getting full time workers! I worked at Co-op part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good pay for under 25s Relaxed atmosphere If you do the work and are nice to managers generally a good experience Good for part time work with college or school Flexible shift patterns Good at giving training or help when progressing or stuck Worked in 3 store and found most of management to be enthusiastic and easy to work with Shifts can be good fun with the right people

    Cons

Where stores are short staffed you get late notice for shift cover. Small stores have more work per colleague as there is less staff on per shift. Depending on the supervisor/manager you are in with you can either know exactly what you are doing or be a little lost and not have much to do at tills. Due to the rebrand and how disorganised the overall company is some managers have become dissatisfied with their jobs

    Advice to Management

Better stock management and rota work

    Cons

Poor team building Made to feel isolated, unrealistic expectations in time frames. Pressure

    Advice to Management

I worked as a CTM for years at the Co-op food. When the shop was run well under effective management it was great, we could all complete our jobs but still enjoy, having a laugh along the way with both colleagues and customers alike. After Coops financial scandals over the news a few years back, things changed.....unfortunately for the worst. New plans were drafted in, redundancies, as well as a new scheme and idea...

I worked at Co-op for more than a year

    Pros

I've worked in two co-ops, this review focuses on the one which I worked at for the longest (around 1.5yrs). I first started working at the co-operative food everything was great, even though at the interview I basically got told I had the job as soon as I gave my name and available hours. The pay was decent in relation to the work to begin with and I could work as much or as little as I liked. My colleagues seemed amiable,...

I didn't receive any training days etc, I was made to sign off for training that I did not receive and to sign " employee procedure contracts" to state that I fully understood processes/training that I never received, I tried to protest the first few times (I signed around 20 of these "contracts") but the manager made me feel as if I would be written up for refusing. These "contracts" were used as ammunition to discipline...

    Advice to Management

I'm worried to even put the worst thing that happened to me during this job on here because others may be able to identify me, I think the co-operative central management would be horrified to see what happens under their noses.. or maybe that's where the apathy extends from. I would recommend you increase oversight across the board, I never received ANY formal training (only though CITRUS), money is probably still...
