    I worked at Co-op part-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - There's opportunities for promotion if you have got the work ethic, commitment and desire to move up the ladder. - Enjoyed engaging with customers. - Staff were friendly.

    Cons

    - At times, it was understaffed. At many situations, there was only 2 staff in - someone at the till and a team leader/store manager on the shop floor. This made it very difficult for the store to run efficiently.

    Nothing you can do about theft or shoplifting ( which can potentially be often)

    Pros

    Very nice staff and management Customers for the most part are very friendly and nice ( mainly regulars) Pay is good .

    Cons

    Long hours that are often understaffed - stressful at times Breaks could be longer - only 20 mins break for working 7 hours.

    Poor shift patterns, rubbish contracts, very high expectations of staff for average wage.

    Pros

    The pay for someone is fantastic, one of the key reasons to stick about The staff knows how to do their job, and everything gets done The staff always tries to be helpful A good first job, gives you a lot of work experience A lot of hours, and a good overtime rate

    Cons

    Often have to figure out what you are doing by yourself Training given is absolutely limited You get told something once and are expected to know it You have to bother everyone to get autorisation, and they make little attempt at sorting it. Co-op is expected to go number one, and even if you have college they will expect you there regardless.

    Advice to Management

    Give employees more say, allow them to actually state how they are feeling Do not get annoyed about them asking for help.

    Pros

    Good hourly rate. 10% discount on food products with double discount days throughout the year. Time and a half rate on bank holidays.

    Cons

    The shift timings 7am-2pm, or 2pm-10pm are the most frequently set timings. Sometimes delivery turns up late or doesn't arrive, puts pressure on the next group of staff working to complete the delivery replenishment.
