Pros
Nothing. The regular customers have been the only redeeming aspect of working here. You’re also entitled to a free meal and drink on your break which is decent.
Cons
I was hired without a contract or specification of what hours I would be working which in retrospect was my mistake - however I really needed work. We aren’t provided with our payslips either and when I started my hours and wages would be incorrectly paid several weeks in a row. As well as this, the health and safety was abysmal. Workers are required to carry extremely heavy loads of stock in nothing but a bag for life and no trolleys are provided even upon request. If experienced an injury the manager either stops giving you shifts or teases you. There is definitely no sick pay or even consideration. Manager makes no effort to train new staff and offloads this responsibility onto his other workers. Manager is also extremely unprofessional in that he gets angry and belittles his staff loudly in front of customers and considering the shop is tiny he becomes easily stressed by more than a few customers. He also is inappropriate in making sexual jokes with his younger female staff and spends most of his day sitting with his friends or on TikTok. Not able to provide consistent employment either as there have been weeks in a row where you’ve not had a shift. Staff turnover is shocking too there are new people all the time and he keeps hiring new people for no reason and is then unable to allocate shifts evenly to all his employees. It is better to be unemployed than work here honestly.
