I have been working at Compass Minerals full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Good pay, good HR department focused on employee development, very stable commodity based company. Hired outside consulting firm to help improve processes and direction. Compass has great assets and is positioned to do well long term.

    Cons

Being publicly held forces the company to be beholden to Wall Street. Too many decisions are made with the stock price in mind. Weather has big impact into success year to year. Can be big workload swings depending on weather. Board of Directors should be rotated more often. Some have been on the board for 15+ years.

I worked at Compass Minerals full-time

    Pros

Good pay, met some good people, sales reps are good people, allowed me to show my talents and go to work for a much more stable company

    Cons

Management- bought a company for $485,000,000 with no direction on how to penetrate the market and compete directly with proprietary products of companies they want you to sell too. It is crammed down your throat everyday to move a product with no help from the top. They hire people to sell fertilizers that have no fertility experience and don't train them. The most difficult part of agriculture is understanding fertility and they hire people with no experience which isn't surprising because management has no fertility experience or knowledge at all. I said at all but they make $400-500,000 a year with bonuses that are unreal. I think the plany nutrition side will be gone in a year, VP left to go to work in construction, construction. He had no fertility experience either.

    Pros

Goderich is a nice place to live and work ,pay is good and for the most part have really enjoyed working here until the past few years.

    Cons

Company is being micro managed by a leadership group who won't take responsibility for their poor planning and choice's that took this company from being highly productive to barely getting by on a daily basis. They treat their staff terribly and are currently using scab labour to run a mine with untrained people and risking lives instead of working on a contract with their unionized workforce for whom the have put out on strike with unrealistic contract demands.

I worked at Compass Minerals full-time

    Pros

Good pay, bonuses, benefits, 401k match

    Cons

Corporate bought a company in Brazil and drastically cut capital for replacement/repairs. All plants are old and have been neglected due to ownership by venture capital firms in the past. Corporate has now restructured leadership at the Ogden site to solve their problems. First line management has huge turnover due to people leaving or being restructured.
