I have been working at Cooper Lomaz full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

This is a company I am proud to say I work for. Sales is a challenging and evolving industry and I feel that Cooper Lomaz have tried to stay one step ahead, constantly looking at new ways of improving performance and efficiency to enable the consultants to make as much money as possible. I joined the business with no recruitment experience and was guided by experienced recruiters with a whole host of internal & external training thrown at me. I have been fortunate enough to earn life changing money, while being rewarded with foreign trips, team building days out and high achiever dining events/experiences. On top of this I have an enhanced pension scheme, Medical cashback plan, Vitality Health Insurance and more. The business is forever looking at how to enhance the working environment to ensure there is the right blend to have the capability for high performance while also enabling downtime. The business is continuing to go forward and have moved to secure a fantastic MD with the vision and experience to grow the business further and take us to places we have only dreamed of going. It's an exciting time to be a part of the business.

    Cons

Most of the cons are in the past and mistakes have been made. You can't change what has happened, but you can influence what the future might hold. The business is now in very good hands and looks to be going in the direction of smashing past the previous successes and beyond. Newer mobile phones and laptops would be nice.

I have been working at Cooper Lomaz full-time

    Pros

The nature of the job is inherently fast paced, but the team structure and management is really supportive and conducive to a productive and successful environment. I feel that I have the support of colleagues and managers in carving out my career and believe that Cooper Lomaz is a really good place to work and continue to establish myself as a successful recruiter.

    Cons

As with any job there are ups and downs, the majority of which are out of our control, but despite this, my immediate managers are supportive and help me to succeed.

I have been working at Cooper Lomaz full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I've been working for Cooper Lomaz for around 1 year and it's been a great place to work. I recruit within engineering and as this is a new industry to me, I have received plenty of training to develop my industry knowledge. There are plenty of progression opportunities available if you put in 100% and really work hard. The majority of senior members of staff have progressed from junior positions and this is very motivational for someone like myself. Recently there has been a lot of investment into the business including: a brand new website, office refurbishments, new IT equipment and variety of other bits in the background. This to me shows that things are moving in the right direction and Cooper Lomaz really care for their employees.

    Cons

None that I can think of.

I worked at Cooper Lomaz full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Most of consultants that are still there are great people to work with.

    Cons

Working here is an experience I can only describe as a total disappointment... To say I was sold a dream and delivered a nightmare is an understatement and I was truly sucked into the vortex of despair having been suckered in by bold claims that they are so much better and different to other agencies. My observations are: - Extremely high staff turnover about 20 people left or otherwise in a very short period of time - Lots of unhappy people at all levels within the business that are just waiting for the right opportunity to get out - Poor commission structure that only works in your favour if you’re billing over 10k a month which on a cold desk is almost impossible - I’d been told by many consultants that had been there for years they hadn’t made any commission in months - Micromanaging people to the point of extreme - Lack if internal communication - Lack of opportunity to truly progress - No investment into personal development - There are better agencies with a more stable workforce out there and companies recognise that so are reluctant to work with CL - Database is a relic it’s completely useless - Competing against agencies made up of ex Cooper Lomaz staff who are all hungry to take over the markets CL work in is pretty soul destroying as they’re pretty good at it! - Fluff up the benefits to sound amazing when in actual fact compared to other businesses are bang on average - Overall morale is lower than I’ve seen it anywhere else

Thank you for your feedback and we truly wish you all the best in the future. We're disappointed to hear the things you've mentioned above as we work hard to create an environment that supports people's growth and progression. We are a growing business that has high standards of the people that work for us - and in return, we reward well. However, we appreciate that recruitment isn't for everyone. We'd really welcome the opportunity to speak to you about your concerns - please feel free to get in touch at your convenience.

I have been working at Cooper Lomaz full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Company is well known (for good or bad). Some bright people in the company (though are leaving at a rapid rate). Good staff benefits.

    Cons

Where to start? Echoing the last review, the company was built from a solid foundation that was led from the front by the joint CEO's. It was a great place to work with quality, engaged staff who wanted to 'be the best'. The dramatic downturn started about a year ago. A particular individual has treated the company as their own personal fiefdom, ruling with a rod of iron which has created a culture of fear that only North Korea could admire. An extremely hostile & volatile person, this character lurches from one abysmal decision to the next (and then switching back again) alienating vast swathes of the workforce. One wonders if their references and former track record were ever put under complete scrutiny? This has resulted in nearly all the top performers jumping ship to two new competitors that were set up by former Cooper Lomaz employees, both of which have decimated the company revenues simply by doing the things that Cooper Lomaz used to be good at: Keeping staff motivated, simple yet good commission schemes, quality training and most importantly, inspirational leadership. Massive staff turnover is understandable, 7 have gone already this year and we're only in mid-Feb. As things stand things are looking very uncertain with zero stability. Also to note, the former reviews "Brilliant work place" and "Accurate Review" look to me like they were clearly written by the management team.

    Cooper Lomaz Response

    March 7, 2017Digital Marketing Executive

Wow! This is quite an extraordinary piece of rhetoric! We've never been compared to North Korea before! Last time I checked we were an ordinary recruitment business doing our jobs and having the occasional pizza and beer together. I certainly haven't seen any intercontinental missiles being launched from the roof of our Norwich office and we're not dispatching attractive female assassins to far flung airports to poison the top performing defectors you mention! In fact we wish them well. We're proud to have been able to give them their start in recruitment and proud to see what they've gone on to accomplish. We're also proud of what we're accomplishing too. We've got a strong team of four directors who work closely together to make key decisions. We've got a broad management team who work really hard to make this a great place to work and we've got some fantastic staff who love being here and want to deliver great results for our clients and candidates. Clearly you didn't agree with a decision we made and you decided to leave. That's ok - thankfully this is a free country not a dictatorship! All the best with your new job!

I have been working at Cooper Lomaz full-time

    Pros

I love working at Cooper Lomaz! The atmosphere in the office & team is excellent. The comradery is exactly what I need in an office environment and it's nice to be part of a workforce you can actually trust - I've worked in similar set ups where this definitely isn't the case! It's no surprise and actually quite amusing that the vast majority of the "bad" reviews on here and the snide remarks on LinkedIn are from (ex) consultants who clearly didn't possess any of the attributes or acumen of a good recruiter and have been left with a sour taste in their mouth to join a different company where perhaps their under performance will not be closely monitored or scrutinised. All of the help is provided to you at Cooper Lomaz but you have to actually want it and be receptive to it. The management team are open to suggestions and clearly work hard to promote the cohesive nature of the business. Lastly if you aren’t afraid of working smart and always learning, the pay/commission is the best of any recruitment company in East Anglia by a country mile - likewise if you actually want to build a career within recruitment.

    Cons

There aren’t any really. It can be a bit quiet in the office sometimes but to be expected every now and then - when it’s busy, it’s awesome! I guess the only other one are the negative people who currently work here and are looking for an easy ride, just hurry up and leave already!

I worked at Cooper Lomaz full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

I leaving Cooper Lomaz after 3 years and I can honestly say I will look back on my time very fondly. During my time I have meet some life long friends, been treated to some excellent food and experienced different places such as Paris, Prague and Marbella all paid for by the company. Jane and Charlotte (joint CEO) personalities are infectious and their love for recruitment and the business is clear to see, and they are a pleasure to work for. Regarding the role, CLR have been in the market for 25 years and have a well established brand of high quality recruitment which certainly helps with BD activity.

    Cons

Last year the organisation went through a bit of a rough patch which turned bitter for some of the former employees. Things have certainly changed for the better in the last 6 months with the new addition of Simon (Commercial Director). I can see the future is positive, with the plans he is in the process of implementing. So why am I leaving? To quote a terrible break up line " its not them, its me". Personally I have got to a point in my career which I believe a change of environment and role will do me some good and freshen up things to help me kick on again.

I have been working at Cooper Lomaz full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Compared to some of the agencies I've worked for, Cooper Lomaz is fantastic. The working environment is conducive, there's great banter and some solid long term career opportunities. Great commission structure (which has recently amended & now more favourable). Excellent incentives that allow everyone the opportunity to go, not just the top billers and have made some life-long friends in the business. Look forward to a long & successful career here.

    Cons

A lot of the negative comments on here are from disgruntled (& partially incompetent) previous employees. Admittedly not all who left are, but there are a small number who seem to have held a serious grudge and taken great pleasure in bad-mouthing the company on professional & social networks. If I was any of their current employers, I'd be extremely concerned at their attitudes to a previous employer and would definitely question whether they'd do this to me. #JustSayingYo

I worked at Cooper Lomaz full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The office was smartly decorated, wages were never late.

    Cons

No real career progression is available at Cooper Lomaz, although I was promised this (and everything else under the sun at interview.) Living off a basic wage is a real struggle, if you do not get a favorable market ( 9 /10 don not) you have no realistic chance of making money. The reputation of the company was once strong, that is no longer the case due to bad leadership, wrong hires, ridiculous internal politics, failed market ventures (subsea & scientific spring to mind.) Everything is done on the cheap, no training is provided, no senior staff are left to learn off. There is no smoke without fire, for a local agency, the staff turnover they have had is incredibly high (check linkedin for former employees). The 'social media' backlash actually came from a client - this says a lot about the modern day Cooper Lomaz.

    Cooper Lomaz Response

    February 1, 2016Digital Marketing Executive

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, we welcome all feedback and are keen to take any comments on board. I’m sorry that you found your time here less than positive. We recognize we made some mistakes last year and we’re keen to rectify them. Over the last several months we have worked hard to grow Cooper Lomaz in an organic healthy way, just as you suggested. We now have a strong management team in place and the joint CEOs Jane and Charlotte are much more involved in the business day to day. We have adopted a more cautious measured approach to growth and are focussing on doing more in our existing markets and geographic areas. We also want to improve the training we provide new starters and are currently recruiting a Training Manager to head up a brand new academy which we will launch in 2016. We promoted 14 members of our staff last year and are committed to developing our employee’s careers. Whilst we are keen to continue to grow as a business, our staff’s happiness is the first priority and we are making sure any comments or issues employees may have are heard.
