    Cons

Old fashioned, no real leadership for changing convoluted processes.
I suspect competition from China will hard them hard in the not to distant future

I have been working at Covance full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Most people are lovely to work with

    Cons

    High staff turnover
Rushed training (for some elements of the job)
    Understaffed
    Pressured environment
No proper career structure- unclear why some people are paid more and are higher than others even with the same level of experience. Difficult to progress.

    Advice to Management

Pay graduates equally, have a proper training scheme for new starters, do not give new starters supervisors who are based in a different country.

I have been working at Covance full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Extremely reasonable food in the staff dining room - good variety every day. Good drinks machine providing a wide variety of drinks for free.
37hr week - early finish on a Friday (workload permitting).
It was a great place to work with a lot of longstanding staff and friendly atmosphere. Everyone helps each other to get the job done - nothing is too much trouble. What is expected is achieved......just! Plenty of opportunity for development if time allows.

    Cons

A change in structure several years ago - sadly it's gone downhill since.
Far too many meetings are held - why are there meetings about setting up a meeting?
Too much idle gossip on corridors by Managers - you should be working!
Everyone is worked to the bone - morale at it's lowest ever!
Knee jerk reaction to staffing issues - trained staff need to be in place before the workload peaks, not taken on in the midst of it.
Any personal development work has had to be carried out at home as workload too busy to accommodate it.

    Advice to Management

Please do not push your dedicated staff to breaking point. Quantity and quality do not go hand in hand!
Take a look at senior and middle management staffing levels - are they proving their worth? The management structure is top heavy - like an upside down pyramid.
Value staff on the shop floor - the workers - we need them! They are also a cheaper alternative to get the job done, rather than management stepping in.
I wouldn't be even on this site if I wasn't looking for a new job!

I worked at Covance full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

You can gain experience in many different roles and quickly. You often help/ assist in other departments, so have exposure to different parts of the business. You can really extend your knowledge and experiences quickly here.

    Cons

There is very little progression. There is little reward for hard work, salary rewards are not representative of the effort and work put in by individuals. There is a lack of clear leadership, morale is very low and the leaders seem to be blind to this.

    Advice to Management

Reward and recognise staff that go above and beyond on a daily basis.

    Pros

Some of the team are great to work with
    Wide range of studies
    Central location

    Cons

    Little, poor quality training
    Very high workload
Management do not listen to issues
Poor pay in comparison to competitors
Not supportive of a work/life balance
    Few progression opportunities
Not flexible with respect to occasional home working

    Advice to Management

Listen to the people on the ground-they often know where the difficulties lie and how to improve them.
Don't assume everyone is the same - what is achieveable for some may not be for others with respect to workload or pace of work.
